FZ30 battery alternative?

I believe the dps-9000 will work, as an external battery.

the 30 will need lots of power, I bet. and it might be some time before the generic internal batts are available for this new camera.

the manual shows that the 30 has a power connector that looks like the other fz's. if so, then it should just plug in and work. I know the voltage is the same.

Which should work nicely. At $39.95, including charger and cables, it stores about 4X the average battery charge, screws into the tripod mount.

My guess is they will be available about the same time as the camera.

Remember, the manual zoom needs no juice! The 710 mAh of the new battery doesn't seem significantly more than the current (no pun intended) 680 mAh. Because of the manual zoom's not requiring juice to extend at startup and retract at power down, I'd actually expect a little better battery performance from the FZ30, myself.

The power requirement (flow) is the same so unless the contacts are different your 15/20 batteries should work in the new camera. Would like to find out positively, though.

Why do I feel cheated when there's no red m&m peanuts in the pack?

Seems like it works for you Linux but I wonder what the power is on the FZ30?

I have a spare battery for my FZ5 but I might just get the Digi DPS-9000 too.

RitzCamera seems to sell it cheapest at $39.95

Thanks for the lead Linux

The DPS 9000 has been confirmed by Jeff (atomicfish) to fit and work with the fz30. I would highly recommend this battery pack alternative. It's only about $40.00 and lasts and lasts and lasts.

Not according to Panasonic. They list them as usable, but to be used for emergency use only. Which is understandable, they would like to sell us new ones.

Hopefully one of the new owners with FZ's will confirm this and post their results here, but I'm assuming they will work as we've been told.

The charger is also supposed to work with either.

Is this an entirely new battery? I've done some searches and can't
find it anywhere, including batterybarn.com.

I need to have 1-2 spares!
Personally I'm just going to use a couple of my FZ20 batteries as spares, until better-priced batteries come along. I'm not a fan of external batteries, too bulky and awkward for my preferences, but do have a DPS9000, and they do make a good emergency backup until you get an adequate supply of normal batteries.

Hi Gary, i'm a bit confused by this post, are we talking about the dps 9000 or the battery for fz1,2,5,10,15,20 and if the fz20 batt do you have a link to that info please.

I believe it's in the manual (I was referring to the FZ5-10-20 battery. I think the DPS will work also, but meant the normal internal battery.

I'm on the road with a laptop, so don't have it here to look, but I think that's where it said they could be used for 'emergency'.

That's correct Gary. A day or so later there was a translation posted, from a review of the FZ30. In part, referencing to the battery situation:-

"You can use also the electric battery of the FZ20. The electric battery increased capacity from the FZ20. ... The FZ20 and type FZ10 before the that you use the form and voltage of the terminal of new electric battery DMW-BMA7, in the same as DMW-BM7. You could use when you try inserting in the electric battery box in trial without problem. The Matsushita Electric Co. has not recommended this using, but as reverse side skill use in emergency it may."

As the questions arose from this reviewers report, I replied with:-

Yes the chargers part number is the same for both, the last time I checked. So yes, I now believe it likely that the early FZ type batteries can work. Quite possibly there's an opportunity here for someone wanting to make a few bucks. Produce small plugs to slip into the 2 new radius cavities of the FZ30 battery compartment to hold the old batteries solidly in place.
