Please advise me, I like my 1D very much but its resolution is limited, now I want to sell it to buy 20D or may be wait for 5D to be out, but price in the UK will be very high.
Should I do that?

Thank you!

I guess it depends on what you shoot.I shoot sports and I will NEVER sell my 1D. When the 1D2 drops a bit more due to 1D2N coming out ,I will get a Mark2.

Good Luck with your choice

The EOS-1D is still my favorite 35mm format camera. I've been able to own or use every single Canon model with the exception of the 1Ds Mk. II, as well as the EOS-3 and Eos-1v. It combines the best image per pixel with a stout and responsive body, and a reasonable file size.

The 20D is a nice camera, but given the choice, ain't no way! It feels a bit ... sluggish.

I will be getting a 5D for doggy pictures, though ... because I also want to use it for astro, something the original 1D or 1Ds aren't good at.

I don't believe in fate, but I do believe in f/8!

I own both camera's and find they serve very different Purposes. The 20D, I use for portraits, low light where I need 800 and above ISO and the odd candid. The 1D I use mostly for candids and shoots that require speed..a lot of speed, I.E bouquet toss, garter toss...etc. I find though just walking around shooting for myself I love the color and the "CMOS" smoothness out of the 20D.

So I guess you have to ask yourself what will be majority of my subject matter? and do I really need 8 FPS, weather seals, and camera that's built like a tank? If you do then the 1D is for you (over the 20D) or do you need 8.2 MP, LI battery and light weight?... if so, the 20D.

Good luck with your decision and what ever you decide I am sure you will love either of them. Let me know as I might be getting a new body so one of my cameras will have to go...(my wife said..LOL)
All the best,

I would suggest the 1D is so devalued in todays market that there is no way I would trade or sell it. $1,000 for a 1D, not for mine. My Digi SLR's include a 1D, 1D Mkll, 20D, & 350 XT. I still use the 1D regularly, it's a superb camera & an astounding value today.

On the other hand, if you are unable to buy a 20D without selling the 1D, well the 20D is an excellent camera. have you considered keeping the 1D & getting an XT?

hello Gabe,

I remember you as a nikon user? Anyhow, you said the truth, and I agree completely. The 1D is indeed a camera that I could switch to from nikon anytime. maybe the only camera I'd switch for...

but now there is this mini 1ds (5d) and I'll be waiting to see it with my mind (and heart) open :)

As some replies have already stated, it depends on what you shoot. I sold my 20D and bought a used 1D because I shoot a lot of sports and the 20D just is not a good sports camera. I am finding the 1D more than adequate for portrait work as virtually all my sales are for 8x10 and smaller. However, if you do street photography, the 20D would be a better choice due to its size. Likewise, landscape and architechure shots will favor the 20D due to the extra mp although the crop factor might give the 1d an edge to some. All depends on your use.....
