Since I will be owning one of these things soon, Id like to know what all these abreviations stand for. Does anyone know? Is it just marketing techy nonsense?

I owned a Canon SLR for years without ever knowing what "EOS" stood for. Im not even sure canon knows what it stand for!

LC Love Canal, Least Common
LX Lux
FX Factory Experimental, Freedom of Expression, HDavidson Softail Deuce
LZ Leading Zero, Large Zenith, Light Zone

FZ - Fantastic Zoomie
LC - Lumix Compact
LX - Lumix eXtreme
LZ - Lumix Zoomie
FX - Fanasonic eXtreme

LOL!
DMC... Delorean Motor Company ... LOL

Actually its something along the lines of Digital Media Camera...

FZ thats any ones guess... probably a 2 letter designation that
sounds cool... it also could mean Far Zoom... or Fast Zoom... but
then what does LC, LX FX, LZ and any others stand for

I doubt there is any meaning that is set in stone. Rather it is the impression you get when you see the letters. For example, FZ, what does it make you think of when it is in the camera's model name? Well, for me, 'F' makes me think of fast, and the 'Z' makes me think of zoom. While Fast Zoom doesn't make too much sense (though I guess F2.8 at tele makes it "fast," the average consumer would be thinking of that), but both individual words are what you want in a camera.

L makes you think of light, C = compact, and X is just something that makes anything look cool :)

Of course there might be some other erason why panasonic went for those letters. But you have to admit that YRK-BD30 doesn't have the same ring that DMC-FZ30 does

(oh, and DMC=Definitely My Camera :)

EOS, apparently, stands for electro-optical system.

Wow, Thanks for finally answering that great mystery! Canon used EOS with ALL their SLRs for ages and never told anybody what it means.

How about the LUMIX? What does that mean or stand for? The name of the "Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ30" camera just begs to be shortended.
