I'm going to try the unexposed but developed slide film over the internal flash trick on my Coolpix to trigger remote slaves. I was going to use some "Scotch tape".

Any other suggestions?

Hi,

I use Prestik - I think it's called TicTac or something similar in the US. It a sticky reusable "putty like" substance that leaves no sticky trace after use.

Hi,

It's been all over this forum: Peter iNova suggest you use a piece of developed unexposed slide negative. Read it here:

Don't cover the sensor, just the flash itself.

I just use some small strips of gaffers tape to hold it down on my camera. This kind of tape is not supposed to leave a sticky residue on the camera, and the few times I've taken it off it didn't seem to. I bought this tape from the B&H Photo site. It's not cheap, and it was way more tape than I need just for this purpose, but it can be used for other things. It's similar to duct tape, just not as sticky.

Regards,

Robert

Here's what I do:
  • cut a 2.25"x0.34" piece of darkeneded slide film.
  • slip this piece of slide film into the battery cap from one of your en-el1 batteries (there will be a little skirt around the front edge).
  • slide the battery cap with slide film over the head of the flash. Walah!
The battery caps for the en-el1 batteries are an almost perfect fit for the flash head. If also used it (sans slide film) as a flash diffuser when doing some macro work. You loose quite a few stops, so its best to pump out the speedlights output.

As opposed to the everyday Scotch tapes that tend to leave a sticky residue (especially when warm) you may wish to use Scotch Removable Magic Tape 811. This tape has a backing similar to Post-It Notes and leaves none of it's sticky surface behind. It comes in a blue box and is available at office supply stores like Office Depot and Office Max. However if you have the 995 I would definitely go with Peter iNova's recommendation of the bracket.
