From research, it seems that Fuji had manufacturing problems with the old Finepix 50i. There are two main problems: 1) The POWER does not switch off, 2) There are PINK dots on the pictures.

I have sent in the camera for repairs twice, at a cost of over £100.00 each time as the fault happened just outside warrenty each time.

Fuji DOES NOT acknowledge there is a manufacturing fault with this old model. They are not willing to replace or fix for free.

They have a very poor customer care department, so BEWARE of buying if you expect good customer treatment when things go wrong….

If anyone would like to buy the camera (which seems to have a power issue) or the parts like battery/ cradle please let me know. I'm in the UK.

You mean to tell me that a 4 year old camera wont be fixed for free when it seems to have malfunctioned? Oh my, the horror.

Thanks for the heads up, I will take that 4 year old camera off my list of must haves, Fui will rue this day.
Take care, Ted

For your information, the camera malfunctioned 1 yr 3mths from new (ie 3 mths out of warranty) then once repaired, malfunctioned again 5mths after 2nd warranty (i.e 5ths from 2nd years warranty - as they give a further 1 yr warranty from repair date). Third malfunction happened recently!!!

No need to be so sarcastic you idiot! These forums are for the purpose of providing any kind of information.

I never had any problems with Fuji's customer service. I had dust on the sensor of my S20pro and it was dealt with free of charge. Of course, my camera is not even a year old.

I would like to know more Dan. Did both the pink dots and the not being able to turn off both happen at the same time or did you send it once for pink dots and once for power on/off issue?

I could not find manufacturing problems noted anywhere Dan, where did you get your research from?

Let's see 2 total posts after a total of 4 hours or so

You Claim research, NO Details

You Make an announcement that appears important to all Fuji digital camera owners then site a rather obscure out dated camera and only have 1 example of 1 camera that out lasted its warranty 2 times BTW 1 year is great many places give No warrenty, ar 30 to 60 days.

When called on this you immediately got nasty and used banned terms [by the site owner] and presenting an attitude that is totally unacceptable on this forum.

Already being extremely nasty after 4 hours and then making a totally false statement, "These forums are for the purpose of providing any kind of information." [CHECK FORUM RULES even though your original use was proper your statement is not]

1. Perhaps you should take a deep breath; relax, think before your next move or risk being designated a "Troll".

2. Seriously, you are not off to a good start. If you continue in this manor perhaps a few more people will try to council you or perhaps if your tirades continue you will be marked as a troll and ignored totally. If that fails it may come to someone contacting the owner with a request for action.

If you feel you have a real complaint and feel ignored by Fuji you might consider restating your complaint and explaining your research, politely and asking for specific advice and help. The people on this forum have gone to extremes to help others; However, we do not appreciate those who make false claims and get nasty when called on it.

To put this another way [my opinion only and my opinion carries NO weight with the owner]:

Please! Grow up.

BUT...whether forum users found his first post uninteresting to them or of no consequence to them there was no call for the sarcastic remarks from the second poster..politeness costs nothing and if i had the reply that he got maybe I would not have been too happy either..

It does not matter how old a camera is, if it is still being used then it's a viable talking point..

I apologize if my first post seemed overly sarcastic, I saw a post in which the poster is yelling ATTENTION ALL FINEPIX OWNERS (all caps in text chat is yelling by most people standards) and then proceeds to inform the readers of a problem with what could be considered an antique in modern digicam terms. It was the posters first post yet he claimed to have been researching this problem and has discovered a mfg. defect, yet a search of this forum turns up no similar instances of same problem.

Seemed awful trollish to me, but then I may have been hanging out in Nikon Talk Forum too much and we see a few trolls a week over there. If Dan wants to consider me an idiot, I suppose I can live with that, I'm sure I have been thought worse of from time to time.
Seriously though, take care, Ted

I just searched for this problem and only found three references alluding to the fact that there was a widespread problem involving lots of other people but was not able to find the lots of other people or consensus as to what the widespread problem was. I did only search for half an hour.

This Fuji (50i) was an MP3 player combined with a digital camera and it seems that with daily use as an MP3 player the power switch would wear out (after 5 years?) or if dropped too many times the battery door hindge would break or the logic board would become damaged from the impact.

A novalty item to most but I guess if you have become accustomed to it then it could become part of you daily routine and an irritation when out of service.

Some of the newer cell phones seem to be filling this nitch nowadays.

Does this affect all Fuji users and require everyones attention? No not really but I can understand the users frustration.

Regards,

Neil

I have a 50i as well, which worked fine from the day I bought it in Singapore in 2001. Last week it showed the same problem you mention: It does not switch off anymore. Cold start by getting the battery out does nor help -- it stays switched one.

I have read about this problem on the 50i by a number of people.
Can it be repaired or sould I just dump it and buy a new one ?
