New Oly-E20 with 5.2MP rumours

This is what I get after running it through an on-line translator. Not much, really.

Olympus presents in Berlin (no IFA state, but only for gelandene guests) the new E-20 - an E-10 with 5,2 Mil. Pixel, an A-40 (?) and a C-2. Technical data and images follow after the fair visit - not later than on Saturday

What a shame I don't understand a word of it!

No doubt, one of our German friends will oblige....?

It says Oly is introducing 3 new models: E-20 (with 5.2 mp), plus an A-40, and a C-2.

Technical details will be released soon, not later than Saturday.

Ich bin auslander und sprechen sie nicht gut deutch! Did I slaughter that one as bad as I think I may have? :)

Rumors, rumors. If you can't love the one you want, love the one you're with. Loving my here and present E10.

Hi Zack,

LOL......German slaughtered pretty badly.

But I do agree with your sentiments about the near and dear E-10!

But... my E-10 only wets my appetite for MORE!!!

25% more pixels... especially from larger CCD elements... CAN'T be a bad thing!

I did a search for E-20 hoping I'd find a link to a news release or something. This German release was all I found. While I don't doubt the authenticity of the announcement, I can't help but wondering why the announcement was made in only one place. You'd think that there would be more press than that.

I for one hope that whaterver comes out and whenever it comes out will fully address concerns folks have had (i.e. focus, buffer, etc.)

We'll see by Saturday, huh?

Well, I read the responses to this thread and I'm saving every penny for the day it comes available to the public ..IF.. it is the same design as the E-10 with 5.2 MP, I will have to have one..E-20?...E11? or whatever it is called!

I agree with you on the "If" part. I hope Olympus has taken into account what current E-10 owners love about their cameras every bit as much as their ideas for improvement. It would be very sad if they improved pixel count and then turned around and gave us a body that didn't measure up to the current E-10. Can't wait to see either way.

Hi Bernie!

4.1MP to 5.2MP . . . that works out to be about a +2dB improvement in resolution!
I think I'll wait a couple of years for at least a +5dB improvement! ;-)

Cheers!

What "improvements" would everyone like to see? I, for one, would like to see an improvement in the wide angle department. 35mm with the lens and 28mm with the add-on is just not very wide for some folks. Also an increased buffer would be nice too. What else???

Hi David,

I'm kind of with you. Unless there is some startling improvement, I think I'll stay married to the E-10 for at least another year. 25% more pixels in a camera like this is kind of gilding the lilly as they say.

Hi John,

I guess I don't have much ground to stand on when it comes to what improvements I would like to see..heck I don't own the E10, but I have had one in hand and took a couple of shots with it and from the short time that I was graced with its presence, I found it to be an amazingly well built and designed camera that fits the hand and performs very well (to my standards). On the other hand it was in July of this year before I had the chance to get my hands on the E10, and there were already rumors at that time, so I'm waiting for the new version to show itself before purchase.

I can say it has been really intense having to wait as I would really like to be shooting with a new camera "right now".

But I am going to push my self control and continue to use the Mavica CD-1000 for now and see what comes out in the near future(very near I hope).

Impatiently waiting...

Yes definitly. The new SLR will be an addition to the E-Series and it will be compatible with current E-10 accessories.

I don't know if there'll be an offical announcement this week, but I expect the new model within the next weeks (no interchangeable lenses on this babe).
