Another D2H meter failure.

You may want to do a search on this forum and other Nikon forums for individuals who have had the repair done AFTER the camera had gone out of warranty and Nikon did NOT charge them for the repair. It might be worth questioning Nikon service about the issue. It is a well documented failure of the camra dispite what Nikon has told some owners. Here are some threads that may be of help. If it were my camera/money I would challenge any payment for the problem.

I also had the meter failure after warrantee had expired. Nikon fixed the meter at no charge and I had the camera back in my hands within a week.

Even with the meter non-functional it took me months before I sent it in for repair. Shooting using manual exposure was no big deal.

My D2H went to shop 3 weeks ago, will cost 400€ to repair, getting it out at the end of the month. That is 2-3 week. :(

Warranty is out...not a happy camper.

My D2H meter too stopped working. I got an estimate of $418 for the repair which included shipping and taxes.... But when I proved that I was under warranty, it was repaired for free. It took me exactly 4 weeks from the day I sent to the day I received it. One week was wasted on proving that it was under warranty. They did ship it overnight after I called and complained about the delay for free. Besides the fact that it took so long... they were very helpfull when I called, so I feel if you keep on them by calling you may move to the front of the line. Good luck.

I just called Nikon Service and they have my camera in their system (at last, they got the camera last Thursday morning - 3 business days). The good news is that it will be fixed at no cost to me. I took others advice and included a letter about the meter failure beeing very common and that I feel that this should be fixed under warranty even though it expired back in March. Thank you all for help.

Nikon got my camera 1 week ago and I still don't have an answer although I was having the same metering problems that pointed to meter failure. Nikon will not give me an answer and in fact they put a gray market alert on my camera with a No repair yet they still have it. Funny thing is: It is not a gray market camera and I even called Broadway Photo to verify and they said that we sent you a USA not gray market. I spoke to Nikon yesterday and they said that they are sending this to corporate to verify purchase. HUH!? Do they think I am lying? Has anyone else had these problems?

Matt,

Yes, I've had the same problem but from another store. My camera had exposure and focusing problems, sent it to Nikon where they said that it was Grey Market and returned it. Luckily, the seller is having it repaired through Mack. Mack confirmed my problems but can't find out why they're happening so as of now, my camera is at the factory in Japan. I've been with out it for over 2 months but HOPE to get it back soon . . . someday.

OMG. 2 months!? I might have to bite the bullet and just pay to have it repaired. Broadway Photo says I can send it to MAC to be repaired and the will handle the labor, but 2 months!

Just thought I'd post this as an update, Matt, as it kinda affects you also. I called Mack Photo yesterday. The seller told me that the camera was at the factory in Japan. Mack informed me that the camera was, in fact, at Precision something or another in either Ill. or Ohio. Precision has something to do with Nikon but is not a factory authorized repair center. Apparently they are waiting on the schematics or repair manual on the D2H as it is such a "new" model. (It's been out for what - a year and a half or so.) The really bad news is that it looks as if it will be a long wait. I fear that I will have to take legal action against the seller for false advertising. I have tried to avoid that route but I don't see any other alternative. I have an appointment with my attorney Monday. Sorry for the gloomy news.

So what have they told you at precision about price and time frame. Where did you buy your camera from originally. I have filed a complaint with the NY BBB but am contempating legal action too.
