Before you go getting all excited, let me first say that as of the writing of this post, their website shows "out of stock". So, as of right now, it's not much of a deal, but it's still so incredible that I just had to tell you guys (even if it lowers my chances of getting some if and when they come back in stock)

I found this over on a "hot deals" website. CompUSA.com is apparently selling Sony 64MB Memory Sticks for $14.99!!! That's what it says: $14.99. Are they nuts?!?!?!? Look!:

http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?prodzip=&product_code=271400

At that price, if they do happen to come back in stock, I'm really tempted to pick up another 2 or so. (no, i'm not one of the greedy people who will buy 20 or 50 and then sell them on eBay)

-hud, who will be checking CompUSA's site every 5 minutes for the rest of the week ;-)

p.s. People on that "hot deals" website forum said that they mixed results trying to pricematch this online price at an actual CompUSA store (some succeeded, some did not). So, "your mileage may vary" if you'd like to try that.

Good thing to do is you should asked for a rain-check!!!

I checked. I was told that the 14.99 price was only for "open box" and returned sticks, which they are out of stock on. I was then told that new 64mb sticks are available for $79.98 at the store. Not satisfied I called customer service and told them to take down the ad for 14.99 or to sell it to me for 14.99. Politely he said, no-can-do, but that I could order it by phone from their warehouse for only $58.79. The number is 1-800-834-7328. Their warehouse SKU Part # is 666859. Hope this helps.

Sounds to me that they put a nice price (ridiculous price) on the net to get the attention and just try to screw you. Nobody can sell the MS for such low prices, it would not even surprise me if this is quite near costprice for Sony... Than they tell you to go to a store and buy for nearly $80, which is about 5,33 times as much as the price on the web.

You are quite persistent which leads you to a new possibility, a new price of $58,79 (about 3,9 times as much as the price on the site). Still nowhere near the price on the net.

My conclusion is this is a definite no-go for the shop, just trying to get customers. Sounds a bit like broadwayphoto even > ;)

Just my €0,02 ;)

Of course they would be a lot higher if I actually had any.
But you read my ad. And that is the point.

I can remember way back, like last week, when CompUSA was an ethical dealer.

A reseller/retailer cost for the 64MB Memory Stick is in the neighborhood of $55 and $115 for the 128MB Memory Stick.

Maybe a liquidation sale, maybe CompUSA is not going to carry memorysticks any more?

I bought, and received my 128MB stick for $108.

After I posted these prices, I did find them cheaper at another distributor. I was trying to give a ballpark figure for margin purposes.

If they are used Mem Sticks is that all that bad. I mean for $14.99. What is the expected lifespan of a New Mem stick.

thanks:)
At that price they'll stay sold out. Unreal!

Rich

I got them at http://www.thenerds.net

I don't remember how I found the site but they seemed legit and had one of the best prices. Shipping was $12 but it doesn't matter any longer. I just checked their site and their current price is up to $135 and they are out of stock.

Thank you!

Here is how I got the deal. I went to CompUSA with a print out of their online price $14.99 and asked for the MS. Before I mention anything about price match, they told me they only have one 64MB stick in stock. So I said okay, how much is it? The manager scaned it and says it's $84.99. Then I go, "Hmm.. what is your PM policy?" She told me they will honor any local store prices. Then I asked about CompUSA.com and she said they are in different division, so they normally won't honor their online price. Then I show her my print out from their online store. She read it and asked me to wait for her to go back and check something...

3 min later she came back out and said they will honor that price, but they would like to keep my print out. :D Total time in store was 5 min. Total amount paid was $14.99 + tax! No shipping or any other fee!

Thanks,
Gordon
