Canon 3D full frame?

If the new Canon is FF, and Phil has his hands on it, it might make
sense to review the 1DsII together with it, and compare both to the
D2X.
I was almost afraid of thinking it! :D But the idea was actually buzzing in my head.. :)

Have a good night (1:10am here in Rome). I envy your bourbons, it's too hot here to drink something even remotely alcholic. :(

Flaky Italians! It's never too hot for a bourbon! ;-)

I reckon Canon might be able to get a regularly usable 3200 out of it, with emergency 6400 in this generation.

Some of the talk about high ISO gets a bit wild, with what are basically fantasies of 12800, or even, would you believe, 25600, but with some improvement I reckon they might be able to hit the ISO figures I have given.
I've heard my Canon friend say something about a 3 series digital
coming out? Apparently 1-series technology in a smaller package.

Does this mean it will be full frame? I would love to have full
frame without the huge 1ds body.
Seems like you heard right. Fullframe, 12.8mp sensor, 2.5" LCD, no
built-in flash. Official press release in October, GA in November.
Price as speculated (just above €3000 in EU). Can't wait 2+ months
to see the high iso samples and the AF specs! :(

Hello Beerboy, I'm betting you were told those very same specs,
isn't it? ;)

If that happens, I'm going to get one. And I'm not really wanting to part with the 1D Mk II. Or the XT for that matter - they're both great cameras in their own right.

Yes, yes, yes... that pixel density should really make ISO 6400 possible.
Unless it's a Foveon style sensor. But that would open a whole other
realm alltogether. Still, ISO 6400 and low noise and high DR seems more
intriguing to me though.

really looks like finally my wait for the DSLR I have wanted all along
is coming to an end this year.... :-D

And only a bit bigger than the 10D? Awesome...

PS Really no info about fps? Most rumors so far mentioned quite
surprisingly slow fps values. Which with low pixel density and quite
low MP compared to 1DSII makes me think that either it's crippled
on purpose or some new sensor tech where they can't get the data
off the chip fast enough. Either to reduce FF costs (like no AA filter on
the chip with software compensation or some new production
process alltogether) or because it's Foveon style sensor....

If this camera really can hit ISO6400, then it would make sense to re-design the AF - this presumably is not designed to be a sports shooter, so the 45pt of the 1 series is not appropriate, but fewer sensors with more cross types and greater low-light sensitivity would make sense.
11 or 21 pt AF, perhaps?

I like your ideas thx, that's my dream cam too... 12.5MP in a 20D sized body (EOS 1V minus the grip style) with 1D quality body, a 1.3 sensor and a nice new L UW zoom or nice small & fast UW prime - beautiful!

I'd buy 2 of these!

Please Canon i hope you're reading this ;-)

.....
I don't want a FF tweener. Give me 12.5MP in a 1.3x crop format
please.
Why not? Anything wrong with FF :D?
No nothing wrong with FF, but I want pixel density for I need to
crop for wildlife and birds. FF would need 21MP, which won't be
cheap. A 12.5MP 1.3x format is ideal. You get 20D pixel density,
you still have more pixels than a 1Ds, the file sizes are still
manageable compared to 21MP. So this camera would be ideal for
landscape, fashion, wildlife etc and maintan a healthy 5fps.

The one thing I'd like to see is Canon develop a 13-30 f/2.8L zoom
optimized for 1.3x crop, or a super sharp 18 f/1.8L prime
