Wanted to see D2x in the camera shop...they said NO (Rant)

I wonder how many buyers have gotten to hold a camera they bought
online ? See my point ? Online buyers still buy it even though they
cant touch and use the item but still buy it online......duhhhhhh !
I've seen just as many post here that they prefer to handle gear and get a feel for it beforehand. If it weren't for that then I doubt there would hardly be any "local" retailers left. I can understand if you want to make a point but for some reason you seem to have a need to post again and again in this thread. Why are you being such a ick about it?

Well spoken.....lookey loos dont care about anything except the
fact that THEY should be able to hold and use the camera...as if
they are entitled to it ? Since when ? Is walking in the door of my
store justification enough to warrant handing you a 5000 dolllar
camera so you can play with it to see if you like the feel ? Get
real........go buy your stuff somewhere else.....unless you are
spending 10,000 a week at my store we wont miss your pennies spent
...................
You have a store?

If so then show enough guts to name it.

If not the please don't lecture us on the economics of something you have no idea how to run.

Trust me, even if we HIDE all the D2X's we have they will still sell. We're big enough.

This is a stock availability issue, not how much money you have.

Blah blah blah....as if you are the wizard of economics......go back to school of real life........not some imaginary " oh my feelings are hurt" because they wouldnt let me look at the camera.........get a life ! Businesses are in business to make money....bottom line....

Its not about fragility ....and if you ever worked in a camera store and saw what people do with the cameras, you would be amazed...they think that since it is a demo customer model, they can shake it, bang it on the counter, pull the caps off, lose parts ( synch, terminal caps)......and just about anything to "see" if it fits there needs..........then walk away and never buy a thing........

.. ..its all about a selling a buyer "new " item.........if you were going to plunk down 5 grand for a new camera, and the store hands you their one and only camera which was their demo camera handeled by hundreds of "lookey loos" would YOU want it ? I doubt it.........you would want a new one , but unfortunately that small camera store doesn't have one any more. becasue inconsiderate lookey loos like YOU insisted on being able to feel the camera " for the thrill of it" before you made your decision............next time you are in the market for a camera do this........................tell the dealer you want to pay full price for a demo model because you feel its only right........................because you are a customer............i mean a lookey loo !

I agree with you Mig...I bought my D70 from a local shop. It was the only one that they had and they took out the battereies and put it back into the box ofr me. If it going to break...it is going to break. You always can fall back on the warranty...
Thanks for your reply

...if anyone is really thinking of buying the D2x but isn't sure, then a 5 minute grope in a store isn't enough. I wouldn't expect a good retailer of this equipment to go handing out samples of something that is hard enough to get stock of in the first place.

A rental would be a better idea, even of a D2H to get the feel of the pro body if you haven't had one before.

Had a friend, well healed. Went car shopping in worn clothing. Some dealers were snooty. One treated him like anybody else, test drive and all. Wrote a check for $60,000+ Drove away with a new Mercedes. (He had started looking at American Luxery cars)

If a retailer cannot afford to let you handle and look at the camera, he probably shouldn't be selling it.

A good salesperson can talk to the customer and find out if they are a serious photographer.

Just like I thought. You are full of it and talking about things you have little or no knowledge of once again. Usually I ignore you but I thought it would be entertaining to see if you could answer any of your own trash talking for a change.

Took the wife to our neighborhood Honda dealer a few weeks ago. Told the salesman that I wanted to check out the S2000.

He informed us that we were welcome to look at it but they were not allowing the S2000s to be test-driven. Said too many kids were coming in and wasting their time.

Funny. My wife and I are in our mid-30s. Hell, I even had permission to write the check... at least until the saleguy made that moronic statement about no test drives.

Who's gonna buy a car without a test drive?

I'll probably still buy the car... but can you guess where ?

Yup. Somewhere else.

In the end, I guess he was right. The 2 hours he spent talking to us about the car was a complete waste of his time. But not for the dealer we'll wind up buying from. :-)

When originally posting this question, I did not think that I wod have sparked the intrest of so many people. I appreciate knowing that I am not the only one that feels like they have been slited. I also understand some of the other posters comments about reasons why they would not show it to me.

Again thank you all...for making this a good thread.

PS -I know that I am not the first person to run into this problem...but I wish that I was the last.

Thanks again...
