Need some help in resizing an image for printing on a Epson 1280.

I have an image from an E-10 that is 2240 X 1680 @ a resolution of 72ppi. I wish to print 800 X 600 on 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper for max. quality.

In PS 5.5 Image Size window, should I leave both the Constrain Proportions and Resample Image blocks un-checked. By doing this, when I change the Height and Width blocks to 800 x 600, my Resolution changes from 72 to 201.6 ppi.

Should I now send the image to the printer, as is, or should I check both Constrain Proportions and Resample Image (bicubic) and increase the resolution to say 300 or 340 to hopefully improve image.

Which would be the preferred method?

Thanks for any advice, Charles

I have had excellent results with PPI values greater than 150 PPI on my 870. Re-Sampling did not improve the print quality. The printer driver re-samples the image as required for the print engine anyways. A 201 ppi image should provide a excellent print...Paul Pavlik

Charles;

A simple way might be to use the crop tool. Set your size to 8.5x11 and
use a pre determined dpi that suits your printer, ie 267dpi or 150dpe.

By using the crop tool you are resizing and croping in one step

Jim & Charles: You can also use the crop tool (setting the print size, as above) and leave the dpi setting blank. Then the image is resized without re-sampling. Since I prefer not to re-sample, I use this method...Paul Pavlik
