I will bet its more like the d1x ...a little less than 6 meg but faster .. more like the d1h in performance.

Mark,

I talked to one of the Canon guys who should know while at the Indy Brickyard 400, all I could get out of him was a grin and a solid "before the end of the year:" he could not confirm the resolution or even if the thing would be CMOS or not. My bet says that the camera is already in mass production, when it is released, it will be on the shelves, and, to make up for all of the lost ground, I don't see how it could be priced higher than the D-1x, they have lost too many shooters already,(I'm one of them, I switched with the original D-1, and now use the D-1x also, I told him that to get people back, after switching from Canon to Nikon, it would have to be one heck of a camera to justify the loss involved, another grin. They definitly have SOMETHING comming, but unless it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, I can't see the switch back. IMHO

Hey Mike,

It is funny that you say that your only response was that the gentleman smiled. That was my exact response from the people at Canon I spoke with. I called Canon about the web page article which talked about hte "new 6 MP digicam" and ofcourse it was only the EOS 6000 (Kodak DCS 560)....well, the woman that I spoke with wanted to know exactly where I saw this site and said that she cannot give any information. When I made some speculation, she responded, "All I can say is that I am smileing."

Anyway, it means crap to me. I just want to see a real announcement soon. I have no idea what to expect, not what performance it may be at. All I know is that I hate that French site which claims to ahve all the knowledge and changes itself almost daily.

That's why I don't like to pass on info like that, we all know that to stay in the game, they(Canon) have got to come out with something, but rumors are just that, and no one that knows is saying anything. I think that it would take a lot more than they will be comming out with to get me to switch back, and I shot Canon film gear for about 20 years. I am getting used to the D series Nikons, and, have just about passed the $$ mark where another switch would be really stupid. I don't claim to understand what or why Canon chose to ignore the pro shooter, but they did, and the change was forced on us, I can't see how they can get us back at this stage of the game. I hope the ones who stayed and waited get something that can justify the wait! Like they say, time will tell!

I'm one of those people who has a ton of Canon lenses and has been waiting for the right camera. I almost got a D-30 but I want more than 3mil megapixels and am waiting for the next technology. I hope they come out with it soon and I hope it is the same price or cheaper than the D-30.

It will be a 6 MPix Camera based on the Eos 1V. The Factor for the lenses will be 1,3 not 1,0 as announced before and the Camera will do 10 Pics/Sec. That's the information from a german Photomag.

Has anyone made note that Canon did not make an appearence at the National PPA Tradeshow? Seems odd to me, maybe they are tired of hearing the same old questions and being able to only answer with a smile.

BTW I own a D30 and anxiously await the next generation.

rinkrat,

Im sure it will have more megapixels and be faster than the D30, but I really doubt its gonna cost LESS OR THE SAME then the D30.

well, this is what I have and I hear September/October as a date.

It will come with the PB-E2 (which use AA alkalines, lithium batteries, Ni-Cd & Ni-Mh batteries, and the NP-E2, and the new lithium-ion NP-E3 battery , both chargeable with the NC-E2 charger. The sensor size is the full 24x36 frame !

It will reach maximum, 9 images per second. Build of magnesium as the EOS 1V, however it will not looks like completely to the EOS 1V. The sensor is, as the D30 a CMOS build by Canon. For the moment the resolution is of confidential data. The body is to expect

There is too much useless speculation on all of this.

How about this, with every statement, add a credibility number as defined below...
5 - I work for Canon and I have seen the future

4 - I distribute for Canon and I am under NDA, but wink, wink here is what I "think".
3- This is what I read at some other web site.
2 - I know someone who met someone at an event and here is what they think.
2 - This is what I would like the next one to look like.
1 - I had this wild dream last night and this is what I saw.
0 - I have too much time on my hands

99% of what I have seen is in the 3 or below category...

My heart really goes out to you Canon users. I too switched from Canon because all I ever got were unscrutable smiles. It was a tough wait for the Nikon D1X, but we at least knew what was coming 6 or 7 months down the road and could plan for it. We were seeing test shots around two months before the camera was actually released too.

Good luck when it comes and I hope you are thrilled to bits with it whenever it does decide to make an appearance.

Here's one additional number. Assign the digit 6 to it.

Canon and Nikon are in fierce competition like Ford and Chevy. Invariably, economics dictates what those outfits will do. Nikon did something. Now it's Canon's turn. Has always happened.

I agree though. It's all speculation at present. I feel that it's a given that Canon will be releasing a competitive true pro camera. When? That can't be said till Canon opens their mouth. Maybe they're having problems? Maybe they had to send the thing back to the drawing board? Two speculative statements to add to the list! ;)

So you're saying when Nikon announced D1 in 1999, the answer from Canon was D30, or they didn't answer anything?

I haven't read about the new Canon on a website but in a magazine which is the most reliable in Germany.

I´ve "heard" that Canon has a problem to release a "pro digital" until the "contract" with Kodak is over (early 2002). Thats why the D30 whas´t advertised as a pro camera or competitor of the D1. Exuse my bad english.
