EF 70-200 mm f/2.8L IS USM $1,469.25

Just did that -- the regular 2.8 is heavy enough (and expensive enough) for me. Only trouble is that it arrived so fast, I didn't have time to sell the 4L first.

it is as sharp as the IS model? I heard some rumblings awhile back the the 70-200 2.8 IS was a bit sharper. Of course that could just be people wanting to feel comfortable about what they already own. ;-)

Are you cmparing the Non IS 2.8 and the IS 2.8??

It's the same glass!!

on a different body!!

IS is just Image Stabilization!!

Is that feature the extra $$$ for you??

Not for me!!

I shoot action with a NON IS/VR lens!!

Not a single one shot with an IS lens. or VR for that matter ( I shoot both Nikon and Canon)

it's the other way around. The non IS is slightly sharper than the IS. There is a link to somewhere on the web with a good review on just this topic. Unfortunately, I cannot recall where it is at this time.

As for that comment that it's the same glass, hogwash. Go check out canon museum website and you'll clearly see these lenses are not the same. One issue to note they are both excellent lenses. I have not used the non IS version but I would not hesitate too if I needed it. BTW, is not the end all be all that people claim it to be!

Adorama. Some scammers are somehow getting camera gear posted at low prices on Amazon. I think they are hijacking the site because some have reported and had such ads taken down. Amazon does offer some gear from Adorama which is legitimate.

Canon 2oD, Canon Gee3, and Canon S7o.

I keep trying to find an artist's eye in the B & H catalog

Actually the price I quoted was from Amazon itself. I'm well aware of the scam situation from Amazon's partners.

I'm simply amazed (unfortunately without samples, my website is undergoing "renovation") at this lens...I shot a garden party over the weekend. This is my new favorite lens. I'm now permanently hooked on "L" glass -- darn...who needed money anyways.

Faces - SHARP at 2.8, SHARP at 3.2, SHARP sharp SHARP (did I mention SHARP?)
Background - creamy
Flowers - SHARP, crispy even...

VERY obtrusive lens though...everyone kept asking if I was a spy or something. I ended up going to the other side of the yard and settling for sniping to stop making people uncomfortable. Then I switched to the 50 1.8, and settled in around the table.

I don't know yet if I would have missed the IS - I haven't really shot anything standing still....and the party was outdoors in the sun.

I did make several head shots of my kids inside - and I was still very impressed by this lens' performance under low light -- although I think the 20D @ 800 and 1600 was responsible for some of this part.

All in all -- 2.8 non-IS gets 9 out of 10....the 9 only because I had to spend $1100 to get it. :)

Cheers!
