Hello all.

I have been trying desperately to get Nikon Cature Control to recognize my D70 when it is attached so I can play around with some custom curves. Here is what I have done over the course of the last month or so:

1. Tried Capture on three different machines. One WinXP Pro SP2, One WinXP Pro SP1, One WinXP Home SP1.

2. I have tried PTP and Mass Storage on the D70 with all three of the above mentioned machines.

3. Using Nikon Capture 4.2.1.

4. I have not upgraded to firmware 2 yet (this is my next step).

5. All machines (operating systems) recognize the camera and in Mass Storage, I can see the images on the CF card (D70 acts like a hard drive) but Capture does not see it.

6. I have tried all available USB ports on all of the machines listed above. Some are USB 1.1. Some are USB 2.0.

I have read and followed the suggestions in many of the posts here but to no avail. Does anyone have any insight into this? it does not seem to be an uncommon problem.

Thanks!

Glenn

you probably should upgrade firmware. May not affect the situation, but would certainly protect yourself from some of the earlier bugs.

I had this problem the first time around. For me, the problem was as simple as logging on to the administrator account and reconnecting the camera. In my case the driver (usbscan.sys and ptpusb.dll) was not loading and I would get the same error message as the one you are seeing.

Make sure you install the latest patch/upgrade to Nikon Capture. When I first installed it, I had the exact same problem but when I installed the update, it worked fine.

I think it had something to do with Win XP Service Pack 2.

I second the motion for getting on the latest Capture patch. I had the same issue until I got the latest upgrade/fixes.

It looks like this thread sort of just died. I assume that folks have just given up on making this work?

My problem is that the Photo Transer Protocol (PTP) Driver for the D70 does not load.

If I set the D70 in Mass Storage Mode (MSC) mode, I see the D70 CF card and can move pictures, but PTP is needed for Nikon Capture control. The cable and the camera worls.

I was runing XP SP1 and have installed SP2 and all of the Microsoft recomended updates, but the symtoms do not change. If you look at Device Manager, it reports that the D70 Driver failed to load.

How have others gotten this to work or did the others having D70 PTP interface problems just give up?

Thanks
Brian

Don't have a USB hub, it is direct to the computer. I know my D70 works on another computer with Capture Control, so the D70 and cable is fine. However, I need it to work on this computer!

Anyone?

If you do a search, there seems to be many of these types of issues, probably caused by the same issue. But it appears that folks just give up on making it work.
