Hi,

I've Photoshop 6 installed for quite a while and everything have been working finne 'till yesterday. The program takes a pause of at least 30secs after doing any operation. I open a picture, it shows and then 30secs pause. Go to unsharp mask, try different parameters on preview, confirm executio, done.... 30secs wait. The funny thing is that it doesn't seem to be doing anything, no access to hd, etc. I'm using Win98. I've tried changing the amount of RAM available to PSP from 50% up to 70% but it didn't make a difference. Is there any other setting I could check for performance tunning. I don't want to re-install it and have to reconfigure the whole thing again.
Thanks,
Herbet.

Don't know about the sluggishness but if you do have to reinstall you should not have to reconfigure as long as you save the settings file and any plugins folder etc. I can't remember the name/location of the settings file right now but the documentation should mention it.

Maybe it's better to upgrade the OS to Win2K instead :-)

Try trashing your preferences, and starting anew. That sometimes helps.

To add to what Mary suggested, do a search on your main drive for a file called "Adobe Photoshop 6 Prefs.psp". Delete that file and your speed should be back. You'll have to reset all your preferences in Photoshop, but this is a minor annoyance compared to the lag! Let us know if that did the trick.....

You guys nailed the problem. I just deleted the prefs file and it's back to business as usual. Paul R. is right, it did happened sometime after I've started to open images directly from the Sandisk card reader.
Thanks a lot,
Herbet.

Someone may have already suggest this, but why don't you reinstall the software first and Windows second.

Even though deleting the preferences file was the issue, for the future ...

Phototshop will run faster if your harddrive has been recently defragged.
I defrag mine once a week on an 8MB drive. The larger the drive and the
more time between defrags the longer it will take.
