Hi,

I havent had CS2 long and I have 2 books to reference from. I cant find this answer. Here's the scenario: I fix the RAW photo and save as a TIFF. I send it to photoshop, do a little tweaking. When I go to "Save As", most of the time it wont give me an option to save it as a JPEG. This even happens when I save the RAW image as a JPEG. What am I doing wrong??

Debbie,

Mark has the right answer, but I only save to jpg for web photos and I use the feature "Save for WEB". If you use this feature you don't have to convert to 8 bit,as it apparently does it automatically.

Lawrence,

I do use the "save for web" too. What do you do if you want to print? I have read that I should save as a tiff in RAW then convert to jpeg in PS. Lately I have just been saving as Jpeg in RAW to save a step. In addition I have had the problem of converting to jpeg. What is your recommendation for saving other than the web?

Hi Debbie,

I shoot in RAW and then do all my post processing and save as a PSD file. I use Qimage for all my printing. I like this work flow as I have my post processed image at full size and I can select the print size in Qimage. Qimage does not change the original image so I can print 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, 8 1/2x11, etc. all from the same master image. If you haven't tried Qimage yet, do yourself a favor and give Qimage a try. There is a little learning curve but it is well worth it. If you try it and have any questions, I will try to help, or you can post your question on the Printing forum, where most of the people there use the program.

I like saving the image as a psd as quite often I see things I would like to change later, and I have full control with the psd file.

Good luck.

i have this very same problems. the bigger issue for me now is that when i do a layer with a mask in 16 bit, the option to convert mode to 8bit isn't selectable. any ideas? i'm so stuck here.

One thing to note.. if you use "save for web" you seem to lose all EXIF info.. at least that's what happened to a HUGE batch of images I uploaded to my smugmug acct. :(
