-- I did a search but came up empty. I seem to remember a few
people had lost their cap but can't remember what they did about
it. Looked at the canon site and it isn't in the accessories. In
fact the adaptor isn't there either. Any suggestions would be most
helpful. Thanks in advance.
( I almost lost it so many times but this time for good which is
very annoying.)

You can get the Canon parts here. Some are not replacement parts, but service parts. Either way they call them, you can buy them. Example the Filter Adapter has a different Canon "internal" part number, but it is "identical" to the filter adapter you get with the camera, down to the
FA-DC58A number stamped on the part. Why they use two part numbers I don't know. I bought 4 more filter adapters, so I have a total of 5 now.
1) for a UV filter
2) for a circular polarizer
3) for a 250D lens
4) for a 500D lens
5) for a spare
I have been putting #3 & #4 on using the filter adapter after the lens is extended and it works fine. My camera does not turn on properly with #3 but is ok with #4. So that is why now I put the "closeup" lens on "after" the camera is turned on. Doing it that way is less strain on the motor and works fine so far even when zooming.
I'm gonna buy the Tele Converter Tube LADC58C, because I'm sure it is less strain on the motor and not good for the camera the way I have been using it.
I can't wait to get the tube and "stack" #3 & #4
