-- I did a search but came up empty. I seem to remember a few people had lost their cap but can't remember what they did about it. Looked at the canon site and it isn't in the accessories. In fact the adaptor isn't there either. Any suggestions would be most helpful. Thanks in advance.
( I almost lost it so many times but this time for good which is very annoying.)

Here's one option
http://lensmateonline.com/pro1.html

or if you buy a UV filter with your 58mm adapter for the Pro1, you can buy a generic snap on cap. ;)

I looked at the lensmate, but $15 for a lens cap seems pretty steep to me. I second the idea of getting a 58mm filter and using a generic cap.

I tend to use the lens hood so I don't use a filter, and I have managed to not lose the lens cap so far.

Doesn't Canon sell a replacement lens cap for the Pro1?? Nikon always sold a replacement cap for my old Coolpix 990.

-- sueanne, thanks if I don't find one to fit in a second hand shop that looks okay. Anyone bought one. It looks so simple as though it wouldn't stay on but keep falling off.

I did have a polariser on the other day with the adaptor and a 58mm cap but felt the weight on that lens would break the lens if I did it too often. What do others think? Anybody have problems with the zoom by keeping a filter on all the time?

In the meantime if anybody bought the lensmate and is unhappy I would a appreciate a reply to this thread. Thanks
fredyr

I do not have the lensmate pro1 cap cause I don't use the lens hood at all.

I just have a 58mm UV filter on the adapter with a generic 58mm snap on lens cap.

I have a polarizer too 58mm but that has its own adapter so when I am done using it, I take it off and put back the UV filter. (I don't stack the filters UV and polarizer)

You can buy additional adapters from Canon and I bought two so I have the UV on at ALL times and the polarizer as needed. An extra adapter in case I buy the 500D but that is not on my priority list as I don't that many macros ;)

Hope this helps

-- Thanks I will think about what to do. In the meantime I just put on a plastic sandwich bag to keep the dirt out. I like the hood on so will have to think about the lensmate if Canon will not order one for me. Difficult here in Israel as my daughter brought me the camera from Australia.

Interesting that so many people keep a UV or polariser on the adaptor as I tried a polariser the other night and didn't like the weight on the lens. Seems so fragile to carry an extra weight but perhaps a UV filter is lighter.

I like your photos and am sad that your land is getting smaller although near cities and towns, the same is happening in Australia and here in Israel.

--Jim thanks good to know

And as for Canon, my exerience is that everything breaks down 1 day after the guarantee finishes but anyway I want to use the hood but thanks for the input.

I bought following for my new pro 1,

Generic 58mm Lens Cap $3.99
Hoya 58mm Super HMC UV Filter $25.95

from photofilter.net. S/H is free.

Happy with them.

You can get the Canon parts here. Some are not replacement parts, but service parts. Either way they call them, you can buy them. Example the Filter Adapter has a different Canon "internal" part number, but it is "identical" to the filter adapter you get with the camera, down to the

FA-DC58A number stamped on the part. Why they use two part numbers I don't know. I bought 4 more filter adapters, so I have a total of 5 now.

1) for a UV filter
2) for a circular polarizer
3) for a 250D lens
4) for a 500D lens
5) for a spare

I have been putting #3 & #4 on using the filter adapter after the lens is extended and it works fine. My camera does not turn on properly with #3 but is ok with #4. So that is why now I put the "closeup" lens on "after" the camera is turned on. Doing it that way is less strain on the motor and works fine so far even when zooming.

I'm gonna buy the Tele Converter Tube LADC58C, because I'm sure it is less strain on the motor and not good for the camera the way I have been using it.

I can't wait to get the tube and "stack" #3 & #4 :-))

Canon parts phone# 732-521-7230

Pro1 Lens cap part# C84-1210-000 = $6.95

Filter adapters part# C84-1208 = $6.13
(FA-DC58A is stamped on the part)

Hope this helps!

I didn't know you could do that? WA40x :-))

-- Thanks a lot. If I can't order it here I will get my nephew in America to buy it for me. Sort of feel I will be upset all the time if it doesn't look like the original even though I am sure the lensmate is good.

I know what you mean - it nice to have the "original" part.

Sorry to come late, I recently added a 300D and have been spending most of my time there lately.

I have the lensmate cap.

YOU WANT THE LENSMATE CAP. :)

Is that subtle enough? No exxageration, the lensmate goes on snugly with zero force, it's like you stick it there and the hood sucks it in. It doesn't slip out. If you use the loop string (which I do) that keeps it attached to the camera lens then you never have to worry about it falling off. It perfectly matches the camera material. What else can I say? I too thought it was too much to pay for a steenkin' lens cap, but finally said screw it and did, and it has more than paid for itself in time spent trying to snap the factory cap back on.

I REPEAT-- YOU WANT THE LENSMATE CAP.

My wife recently (within a month) seperated me from my pro1 lens cap and I found myslef in the same situation. I think it is iritating that canon doen't sell it on their website. I used the e-mail tech suport to ask what to do. here is the response I got.

Thank you for contacting Canon product support about purchasing a lens cap for your PowerShot Pro1. We value you as a Canon customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

The lens cap is not available for sale from our website. For the price and availability of the lens cap as well as other parts for your camera, please contact the Jamesburg Factory Service Center below and select the appropriate prompts for ordering parts.

I have not yet made the call. Also I found this:

http://www.henrys.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/PageDisplay?dest=frames.jsp&currency=USD&storeId=10001

but I haven';t ordered it yet. so far I am getting along with a filter and the lens cap for it.

PS my wife has already lost one of the new lens caps too... I'm glad she hasn't lost the filter ...or the camera yet.

-- I guess I am one of those silly women as it didn't come off the camera. I had it in my handbag which I stupidly left open and an altercation with my dog and another dog caused a lot of things to fall out. I had forgotten about the cap so didn't even think to look if it had fallen out. Max thanks for the photos. I guess I will get one or the other after the weekend. Just annoying as I had glued a tether to it so it wouldn't fall off the camera.

By the way Max do you ever use a polariser with it. I did the other night and I can't say I was thrilled as I felt the zoom was working too hard and even got a message "lens" so I turned it off and sighed with relief when it turned on again without a problem. regards to you too.
