Maxxum 5D digital camera

Looks like a good buy at US$799, not that I'm in the market having just spent a good chunk of my savings on the 7d and 17-35 2.8 (D).

I'm curious to see how the controls were handled on the 5d. I imagine the menus will have to be much larger than on the 7d to handle all the functions available.

Interesting. Thanks for the link.

I also found the α-sweet DIGITAL (Maxxum Dynax 5D) listed in a Japanese online shopping/mail order website. (They claim to be Japan's biggest mail order shopping/mail order online shop).

No detail on the α-sweet DIGITAL (5D) yet but looks like it will be add soon.

They also have the limited edition (Japan only) α-7 DIGITAL (20th Anniversary edition) listed at 168000 yen or US$1515.

The 20th anniversary limited edition is just a 7D bundle with a KM 17-35/2.8-4 with a special strap.

Boy, this looks like it will go over big. It looks like it has most of the features of the 7D, except the body is smaller and all plastic.

It has also has the consumer features like landscape mode, portrait etc.

Another interesting feature I noticed is white balance bracketing.

All for $799. Go KM!

Well, it is plastic, it is smaller and can not have a grip and has an inferior display with fewer controls. It is not a replacement for MY 7D!

Yes, yes, yes, for only $799 I will definately consider it even though it is still only 6MP. I have 3600HS, RC-1000L, and best of all it retain NP-400 batt. I might buy this now instead of waiting for 8MP+ camera from KM. At least $799 won't hurt my pocket hard and I can keep using all the lens with future dSLR.

Hmmm.....specs are dangerously close to 7D, i.e. the limitations such as body quality, low res LCD and slightly smaller buffer could be lived with by most. So, unless the rumours about the 7Ds demise are correct, this could seriously hurt the sales at the higher end. Personally, although I haven't even had my 7D for a year yet, I'm kind of hoping for an 7D++ 8D/9D or whatever soon.

It's wrong to assume that the lower priced '5D' will hit 7D sales, The 7D is already heavily discounted & is now at an attractive price.

It may actually improve in sales as people realise that they can get more for a little extra. It is mainly concerns about BF that deter people from getting the 7D at the present.

I too am waiting for the 9D or whatever it will be.

I want to get into wedding shoots and would like the 9d to be my main camera and the 7d my backup.

However, for now, I may consider getting a 5d as a backup camera and shooting mainly with the 7d.

Lense!! I want more lenses!!!

The difference is in ergonomics and construction. Look at the film Maxxum 5 and Maxxum 7. The function is extremely close. However, the 2 bodies were distinctively in different classes. It would be similar for 5D and 7D.

For manufacturer cost, mechanical parts are much more expensive than electronics components.

I've already got enough lenses (9), what I need is something of 9D level with higher resolution as the one problem with a 6 Mpix camera is that it leaves little margin for cropping without reduing the final image resolution/quality below acceptable limits. Also, a higher shooting rate would be advantageous too, 5fps minimum. The 7D is a fine camera, I'm very happy with mine and would deifnately keep it as an often used second body, but the greater spec of a "theoretical" 9D (we're all guessing at present) would certainly be very useful.

Will it have it, or will they pull an A200 and leave it off?
