Top view FZ30 & FZ20 comparison

Hello,

Time will tell. If the new FZ30 has a manual zoom, I will be glad to buy it.

A manual zoom would improve the taking of action shots.

I would like to see better pixals and lower noise.

One or two more iso settings or a clean iso400 would be nice.

Using the same battery would be nice.

SD and CF would be nice.

A swing around lcd would be great.

Is that a 16:9 lcd aspect ratio?

Mpeg4..Divx maybe

Who knows?

Roger

i'm a little confused--does anyone actually PREFER the electric zoom over a manual zoom? To my way of thinking, a manual zoom on the FZ30 would be a big improvement.

On my screen for the FZ30 the hot shoe of is narrower and the mode dial is larger than for the FZ20. So if you scale the FZ30 hot shoe to be the same size as the FZ20's the FZ30 and its mode dial would be monstorous. There must be some distortation somewhere.

Flash hot shoe was based for scaling.

For the last 48 hours, that site "probably" was the most busy Panasonic web site compared to other Panasonic site ? They must had captured a very interesting traffic information from around the globe !

Don't believe it was an accident, web site and full page news-paper ads ? Smelling a tactic for capturing market response information before launching ? Time to adjust or fine tune for the final base price ?

Got info from reliable "source" that several FZ20 stock in big Panny distributor's warehouse in Asia region are already in "low" level, replenishment is late from normal schedule.

If you do the math. For the FZ20 at maximum zoom of 72mm and aperture setting of f/2.8, the effective aperture opening is 25.7mm. The FZ30 has a maximum zoom of 88.8mm and if the aperture was to remain at f/2.8 the effective aperture opening would have needed to be 31.7mm, which would have meant a 23% increase in lens diameter. Limiting the maximum aperture to f/3.7 at maximum zoom allowed the lens diameter to remain around the same as the FZ20. The same reasoning explains why the smaller diameter lens on the FZ5 is not able to retain f/2.8 at maximum zoom.

Cheers, Ian

If at first you don't succeed to hell with it!

It looks like a normal LCD screen at an angle, demonstrating the FZ30's tilt screen capabilities probably.

ISO800 and 1600! Is there anyone to confirm that this exact same sensor used in the Olympus cam is to be used in the FZ30?

You lose resolution to gain higher ISO....

8mpix at ISO 64 to 400
4mpix at ISO 800
2mpix at ISO 1600

to obtain iso 800 they use 4 pixel as if they were 1 pixel therefore increasing the pixel area and decreasing the noise... if you take the light from 4 pixels and add them and put it into 1 pixel then you get double the ISO of what the 4 pixel origonally were and less noise due to combining their values

Well, Panasonic won't likely use a Oly sensor anyway as they are a big CCD producer themselfs.

Ah, now I understand. As for the resolution loss, I never print my pictures anyway. It would be really useful if all the ISO settings were usable and were not blotchy like ISO400 on the FZ20.
