can anyone please tell me just what the difference is between these two cameras, i looked at them in the side by side area and found nothing at all except one has an orientation sensor, what ever that is? and one doesnt. Please help, I need to make a desicion quick I am buying one or the other in about 2 weeks!! Thanks for all your help

I'll be anxious to see what you learn; I had the same question and couldn't really tell the difference! I ended up ordering the Z740, though, because it's a couple of ounces lighter and uses AA batteries (I sacrificed the larger 2.2" LCD). The price difference was negligible. But in all my research, I was darned if I could find any significant difference. Good luck with it. I suspect you can't go too far wrong with either one (or the one I ordered, for that matter).

both the dx7590 and z7590 have an 'orientation sensor' - it detects if the camera is held 90 degrees in portrait mode, rather than the usual landscape mode and auto rotates the pic on display, so that when you are looking at it with the camera held normally, the pic isn't displayed sideways.

They are basically the same camera, except that the Z-series is what Kodak has renamed the DX series to, it does include the following changes:
1. slightly faster (shot to shot: dx 1.8s, z 1.6s)

2. Uses the new ImageLink connector to attach to the Dock Series 3 (the DX connects to the older series docks). You can use either camera on the other docks with an adapter.
3. The Z includes a histogram display
4. The Z also includes a 2-second timer delay (DX is 10s only)

I'd buy the Z7590 (being the latest version), unless the DX is at a bargain price :)

Only significant difference is the histogram. And pictBridge compatability. My advice is the DX7590 because if you shop wisely, they are practically giving them away with the dock to boot. Sam's club $366. BuyDig.com $327. Shop around.

I'd go with the DX7590 also. For it's price, it usually includes the Camera Dock. At around $300.00 (at Buydig.com) for the complete Kit, it's a pretty good deal!

Other then the new doc conection and histogram they are the same
camera
Yes, totally agree. I had research the two camera. And finally got the DX7590 last week.
Reasons:
The Z7590 is to replace the DX7590. Therefore the DX7590 is on big discount.

My other digicam is DX6440 which use the same Series 6000 dock. (In Canada the DX7590 does not come with dock as in the State).

I don't know how useful is the histogram, but with about 25% discount, I'm willing to give up the histogram and Pictbridge. (I don't print picture my self. I find it much cheaper to print it outside.)

My advise, buy the DX7590 (if you can find one.) with discount and use the saving to buy a 1G memory card.

I thought the external flash connection and viewfinder dioptic adjustment were unique to the "Z". Probably wrong, eh?

I bought the Z because it was more recent and buy.com had it for $349 plus a 10% discount. $319, pretty good. Then I bought a series 3 dock from them for $31. Extra battery, lense adapter, 2 filters, extra card and reader....

next will be lenses!

I bought this camera to SAVE money.... HaHa.

Yes....the DX7590 also has the dioptic adjustment and external flash connection. Plus, in the US, the DX7590 also comes with the camera docking station included in the camera kit.
