I finally received my DK-17M magnifying eyepiece from Adorama.
Price: $41.95 + shipping
Installation: simple, simply close the viewfinder shutter, twist off the standard eyepiece, twist on the new and open the shutter.
Size: The DK-17M is 4mm thicker that the stock piece. I was a bit concerned about this, but it has not proved to be a problem.
Performance: Fantastic. This is a must-have option, especially if you are older and not as eagle-eyed as you once were (like me). The 1.2x magnification is subtle, just enough to be helpful. Nikon states that you may not be able to see the whole finder, but I have not found this to be the case. I do have to "look" at the right side information, but it is visible.
I would suggest using a rubber eyecup - but then I'd suggest that for anyone regardless of the eyepiece. The official cup is DK-19, but I was able to get my old DK-2 to work fine.
I just checked and Adorama seems to be out of stock again. I'd suggest just going ahead and placing the order and patiently waiting.
