Viking CF Rebate ?

I'm sure Viking will pay a few rebates to calm the waters and forestall litigation, but at the same time they are denying many applications for bogus reasons. That should not be tolerated. If a person buys the product during the rebate time frame and submits all the required documents for the rebate, then he is legally entitled to the rebate check. Hank
I just spoke to a gal who said my rebate was posted 6/23 and was
valid. She apologized for the delay "due to the large response to
this promotion" and assured me it would be paid. Interesting. We'll
see.
 
and i've had it up to here with all the rebate crap. why dont they
just lower the price when you buy and
forget all the paper work involved? why because they could cheat
you so perfectly.
While I can't claim to know their motivation, I agree about "rebate crap." I never count price rebates in any buying decision I make. The only thing I take into consideration is the up-front money I have to pay. Anything else is a gimick, and life's too short to waste time on them.
 
Still nothing. When I called the 800 number, the person just told me to wait 1 more month! It was in their system since June 3. I can't understand how Viking can promote something and then fail to comply with their end. They got paid already anyway. Makes me think if I'm going to deal with them again when it comes to rebates.

Just to save people the trouble of reading all the posts, there has not anyone who has received a rebate yet.

I just got a $45 rebate on my CD rom drive, $60 worth of rebates on my new harddrives, and $60 on a new monitor, and $60 on my backyard lights - a 100% track record. Lets hope Viking doesn't spoil that.

In the meantime, I'm emailing Amazon while we can still do something about it..

I have not, and am sick and tired of these rebate come-ons that
either take forever to pay, or don't pay at all. I've been burned
several times...
amazon should pay all the rebates and deduct the amount from what they
owe viking. after all amazon advertised the rebate in effect
vouching for them
and even making the form available. they should be responsible for
the
ethics of the manufacturers they advertise and carry on their site.
giving these
scam artists a 5 star rating jeopardizes amazon's credibility and
obligations to its customers. cough up the rebates, amazon, and
save your reputation.rallph
 
I'll never forget the time I bought a Polaroid disposable camera - cost $20 or so and had a $5 rebate. They dis-allowed the rebate on a technicality. Made me so mad - here I had spent time filling out the paperwork on this piddly rebate (well I was a student at the time, so it wasn't entirely meaningless...) and I still didn't get anything.

Result? I never bought another Polaroid product ever again. Not a one.

An over-reaction? Well, I figured that I was buying the camera for fun (it's not like I really needed a camera that produced instant 3x4 inch prints :-) and for whatever reason dealing with the rebate had really made me very annoyed. What's fun about that?

(And I did send them a letter complaining about the rebate, which they never did respond to.)

(More rationally, I've since then avoided rebates that aren't large enough to warrant bother.)

(And no, I don't think Polaroid died because they messed up their rebate strategy, but it may cost companies like Viking a lot more because of how wired their customers are. I sure decided to avoid them...)

I understand your frustration. I have had slow rebates happen to me when I have purchased products and sent in the rebates. When the rebates were slow I did everything in my power to find out the status of the rebate and make sure that I was truly going to receive it.

However, when I have received my rebates on time I have never taken the time to let the public know my satisfaction--maybe I should in the future.

In order to locate and track the rebate down for each of the Viking customers, some information is required.

I just want my rebate. the viking cards have been good cards no problems I have 2 of them would purchase more if it was'nt for this rebate scam.

unfortunately I ordered my second 1 before I knew they were not going to honor their rebate. Amazon is a great reliable site to do business with but this garbage has got to stop.
 
I see you are busy this morning with ten posts in the last 4 hours to various forums here at dpreview. I for one give you credit for letting your current, your past, and your future customers know the status of the rebate frustration.

I see this clearly as damage control on behave of Viking wanting to calm the nerves of their customers. This is a good step in showing your customers that you stand behind what you promote.

It is only hoped that the next time Viking puts on a rebate offer that they respond more quickly to the concerns of their customers and not to put them off as Viking has done, as it is so clearly indicated be these forums, for what ever reason it may of occurred.

I had placed my first ever Viking 128m order from Amazon one day before the first complaints started to appear and then became discouraged on what I was reading at this forum. When I received my Viking card I quickly returned it back to Amazon for a refund and have ordered a Mr. Flash 128m from http://www.Newegg.com at $53.00.

I will see how the rebate situation will turn out before ordering from Viking in the future.

Considering TheVikingGuy replied here at least we know they might respond under pressure. Compare to Canon's silence over our gripes & the slap-on-the-face firmware update, well, you get the idea.
