I have a budget of $400. I would like to buy only a digital camera, though I also have need for a vidcam.

I would like to take good quality clips (unlimited) & pictures of my new born in low light.

plus I am a trekker and like to take photos of green fields and snow covered mountains at around 10000 ft.
I'm also fond of taking closeups, headshots etc.

I found kyocera M410R. any other suggestions?

The reviews for the cameras that you mentioned are not very encouraging.

SInce I have around $350 for my budget, I would like to go for a better model! I already have a 128MB MMC, I would like to use that too!

thanks

the problem you might find is that you can either get a great stills camera and a not so good video recorder, or a great video cam with a not so good stills camera.
the movies from a stills camera are ok and are getting better all the time.

personally i would go for seperate vid and still then that's the best of both worlds.

Fuji F10 has limited zoom capability for mountain area photography. what about Z740?

I have narrowed down my list to the following, in decending order of priority:

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z5
Canon powershot S2 IS
Fujifilm FinePix S5100/S5500 Zoom
Kyocera Finecam M410R

I would appreciate your comments plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Looks like the zoom is a dominating factor in your choices.

Not owning any of these I can say that I inspected the Z5 at Cosco and thought it was VERY toy like. pass
The Fuji zooms you have listed are just 4 mega pixels? so I'd pass on these

Kyocera is not know for making cameras besides its just 4 mega pixels as well so I'd pass on this aswell.
I'd go with the Canon ... If I HAD to pick from these ;-)

If you really need a long zoom you may want to check out the new Samsung Pro815

altho Samsung is not know for digital cameras BUT they are know for electronics in general and are really trying hard to make it in the digital camera sector so are offering features not found on the competition to attract buyers. Its 8 mega pixels...not sure about the movie mode.

Good luck

if you see my original post ... I need a camera within 350 USD, which has unlimited video (30 fps 640x480), long zoom and good image quality/resolution.

is there anything better than Dimage Z5. I dont mind a second hand (is anyone selling???)

casion exlim is very good but expensive.
canon S1 IS is good but only 3 MP.

can anyone refer a reliable used/refurbished camera store in US, especially Detroit.

Just in case you have not asready bought, and considering that today is my first foray into this site, I must aplaud the merits of the m410 kyocera. You mentioned 400 dollars, you can buy the 400 all day long on ebay for about 200,maybe 225 dollars, brand new in the box w/warranty. I think for the money, it is the best deal going. The only problem is it does not have stablization and af assist, but for 200 bucks, who cares.

since I have narrowed down to Minolta Z5. can anyone point out a better deal than Z5, under 400USD. I'm prefering Z5, since its SLR like, more optical zoom, 30FPS movie.

kyocera is available for 200USD, but if I have 400USD, why not get a better one!

Frankly, if you want video, you really should get a DV camcorder and a separate still camera. The video out of most digicams sucks.

This interesting samsung has has both in one camera.

If I had 400 bucks that was burning a hole in my pocket, I would go for it to, but I think I would add 25 or 50 more to it and get the S2IS. From all the reports i have read,I think it would be a much better deal and a camera with a whole lot more bells and whistles. At least it seems that way with the reports I have read. It would be my camera of choice in that price range.

You mentioned that you have a 128MB MMC card... if you're going to record LONG movies, a larger card might serve you well. Be sure to budget for that (and extra batteries) if you haven't already.
