You know to be fair. My dad received a card from Viking stating
that he had not sent a copy of the sails receipt to them. I am
sure that he did because I mailed it for him and got all the stuff
together. The card he received told him to return the card to
resubmitt for the rebate. This was pretty nice--they could have
just thrown the rebate out and not messed with it. I am sure it
was their mistake however.

Has any received the Viking CF rebate (Amazon.com) back in May?
I have not, and am sick and tired of these rebate come-ons that
either take forever to pay, or don't pay at all. I've been burned
several times...
amazon should pay all the rebates and deduct the amount from what they
owe viking. after all amazon advertised the rebate in effect vouching for them
and even making the form available. they should be responsible for the
ethics of the manufacturers they advertise and carry on their site. giving these

scam artists a 5 star rating jeopardizes amazon's credibility and obligations to its customers. cough up the rebates, amazon, and save your reputation.rallph

Thanks for the heads up guys. I was going to buy a viking card from Amazon but after this thread I will be looking elsewhere.

I wonder if one of the problems could be with the UPC tags...the rebate form I downloaded from Amazon had a sample for reference. It did not match the one on the electrostatic bag in any way. It did match the one on the box perfectly, so I sent that one. In any case, I'll never buy from Viking again even if I do get the rebate. And I agree with the posts that have recommended going through Amazon...there is a thread on one of the other forums (don't recall which, probably Nikon) indicating that Viking changes their tune quickly when Amazon weighs in on the side of the customer.

Mike
Gentlemen,
It would appear that Viking, or their rebate center, is not playing
this one straight up. The expired rebate form gambit is at best
weak, since this rebate has been going on for months with only the
date changing on the form at Amazon. I will assume that all have
been sending in the tag from the electrostatic bag. Given that you
have done everything right, frequent communication with Viking both
via e-mail and phone would be in order

I just sent a e-mail to Amazon. We should flood them with protests

I sent letters to Viking and to Amazon this morning. I'm sure I'll be ignored by Viking. I'm surprised that a reputable company like Amazon would let themselves get caught up in an obvious rip-off like this. I'm sure Viking will pay dearly for their stupidity, and so will Amazon. Hank

I just bought my card last week and I haven't sent the rebate in yet but hearing all this I wrote Amazon and told them I want a refund since the rebate was boguss. I like to see what they have to say.

I also experienced the same problem:

"Viking $25 Rebate. Dear Consumer: Thank you for particpating
in this promotion. Unforunately we could not honor your request
because of the following reason(s):

Your request was postmarked beyond the eligibility period
for this promotion."

I am positive I sent in the rebate request WELL before the
deadline has expired. I have sent back a reply to Viking asking
for them to reconsider. That was about a month ago... no reply.

I have just sent Amazon an email using the URL posted in this
thread.

Actually, the money is not so important to me... it's the fact that
Viking thinks they can get away with this total scam!

I made sure to send mine in certified mail with a return receipt. A few bucks extra, but I had four rebate requests in there. I called today and they said there was a delay, but that I would be getting the rebate (as far as they knew). We'll see.

I just filled out the return form at Amazon to return my Viking 128m card. I ordered it last week and it is expected to arrive to me tomorrow according to the UPS tracking website. When I receive it, I will return it unopened right back to Amazon for a refund (30 day return policy) minus shipping cost.

I indicated in the return form of Amazon that Viking is not honoring their rebates and I gave a link to this forum so they can read it and see how many unhappy customers there are.
I'm not going to wait x number of weeks for a rebate.
I think I will give NewEgg.com a try.

I called the 800 number listed on the rebate form and they referred me to 800-340-0108. The person asked for my zip code and first name..found the form and said it was a valid rebate. He said it will be mailed out 6-8 weeks AFTER they ENTERED it in their system....which was 3 weeks after I sent it in.

At least I feel good that I heard the works "valid rebate".

Sent mine on May 31, not a peep yet. There was an article in a computer magazine about the clever 'rebate' marketing. The rebate guys use the word 'Slippage' , meaning that there is a predictable percentage of buyers that will not send in their forms, or send in the wrong information. One I saw recently offered a farily high priced ($49.00) music CD that offered a $49.00 rebate! They probably still made money after taking into account both the 'slippage' and the overpriced item. I actually got the $49.00 after an eight week wait.
sent mine in may and nothing yet. mark> Sam Kanter wrote:> > Has any received the Viking CF rebate (Amazon.com) back in May?> > I have not, and am sick and tired of these rebate come-ons that> > either take forever to pay, or don't pay at all. I've been burned> > several times...>

My guess is that the amount of rebate is tacked on to a fair market price. Then the extra money collects interest for the seller. The "slippage" factor (buyers not sending in the form or sending in wrong information) makes the rebate game a win-win situation for the seller.

Thanks for posting that number above/below.

I just called and someone picked up after the first ring and asked for my zip code and last name. The amazing was that...he actually found the 2 rebates I sent in in their system! He said my 2 rebates are "valid" rebates.

After pressing him for an ETA on the actual check, he said due to the popular demand of the CF rebates, they expect to send out the checks sometime this month. However I have a feeling he did not really know but just wanted to me some date.

We'll see....

BTW, I send my in 6/11/01.

Considering the number of nearly identical complaints posted here and the Nikon Forum, I just wonder how many other buyers got sucked in by the Amazon promotion of Viking!

Could be in the thousands!

It appears that the e-business is the nearest thing to a Marakesh flea market. Anything goes.

Just spoke to someone who told me my rebate request was valid, but it had not been entered in the system until 7/23, and the check would be mailed 6-8 weeks from that date. Wonder what they'll tell me on 9/17?

Companies know that for each written complaint from a customer there are possible a thousand who did not bother to write. Meaning that just a few dozen complaints represent thousands of dis-satisfied customers. They will change their routines!

I just spoke to a gal who said my rebate was posted 6/23 and was valid. She apologized for the delay "due to the large response to this promotion" and assured me it would be paid. Interesting. We'll see.
