Hey there, hud!!

How's the little "hudette"?? Hope you're all having a great time as a family. :)

I really liked the picture. Always a sucker for a good sunset...

If this is an area near your home, could you try going to the same location, but shooting from the other side of the bridge towards the sunset? This might give you color both above and below the bridge.

I like your existing one. I'm just wondering if you might be able to get a different effect from the other side of the bridge.

Hope this helps. :)
Hi all. I actually got out a little bit tonight, and took a couple
of pictures that I enjoyed. I posted them over here in

Hi Hud who hasnt posted lately, nice atmospheric sunset and I like it. A train entering from the right might perhaps have been the icing on the cake, but trains never appear when you want one. Having seen this, it is tempting to have a go at Britannia Bridge near here.
Cheers, LG

Ahhh, Hud!

Long time no see! Man, you're scaring me. Since you have the baby, your free time seems to be drained to zero! I'm really pushing off having kids until I'm 50!!! :)

The pictures looks great, keep having fun with the baby and the S75!

gel- nice to see Hud finally have some time for us forum members!

Hey there, hud!!
Hey Ulysses!
How's the little "hudette"??
Good, thanks. She's keeping her mommy and daddy busy.
Hope you're all having a great time as
a family. :)
yes, in spite of some of the not-so-fun things, we are enjoying our daughter (and hopefully she is enjoying us too!)
I really liked the picture. Always a sucker for a good sunset...
yeah, me too ;-)

If I understand correctly, you want me to face towards the sun. Well, I was! Seriously, I was facing in the direction of where the sun was setting. The clouds pretty much totally concealed the sun that day, yet somehow the sun managed to light the sky up nicely like that at sunset.
I like your existing one. I'm just wondering if you might be able

Yeah, don't worry, I'll be taking more pics of this bridge for sure. I don't exactly know why, but I think it's a fascinating structure to take pics of. I'd really like to get some cool pics of it on a foggy/misty morning.
Hope this helps. :)
I always find your comments helpful. :)

Man! If I can't catch a train starting to cross the bridge while there's a cool sunset, that'll be awesome! Hopefully one of these day that'll happen.
Having seen this, it is tempting to have a go at Britannia Bridge
near here.
cool! yes, go! take pitchas! have fun!!! ;-)
Cheers, LG
-hud, hoping to see cool pitchas of Britannia Bridge someday ;-)

hmm, it seems that way to me too. LOL!!! yes, my free time has decreased quite a bit since our daughter arrived. But I do enjoy most of the time I spend with her too. (I don't enjoy when she gets into a 'temper tantrum' mood. Yes, my 6-week-old daughter has quite a fiery temper. hmm , i have no idea where she got that from. LOL!!!)
I'm really pushing off
having kids until I'm 50!!! :)
Well, I won't kid you (ooh, there's a pun), having a child does occupy a good bit of time on a daily basis. But, if you enjoy the time you're occupied with them, it really is enjoyable and fun ( most of the time)
The pictures looks great, keep having fun with the baby and the S75!
I definitely will, with both

Not too badly. Having this little daughter of mine is a fun adventure, every day!
You got that rocking the baby thing down to a fine art now?
you bet! I'm an old pro at it now. ;)
We'd love to see your Little Princes again, kids just grow sooooo
fast!
Yeah, I have to post some more pics of her to my web page, when I get around to it! I'll be sure to let you guys know when I do.
Take Care Hud......keep that camera workin!
You know it! My S75's workin' overtime! ;-) Actually, right after Gwen was born, I set a goal: to take at least one picture of her every day for at least her first year. Like you said, kids grow sooo fast. I can even see that in the 6 short weeks we've had our daughter. She's so much bigger now. It's incredible. That's why I committed to taking pics every day, because I know she gets bigger every day, and I want to be able to look back and remember. So, anyway, with that said, my S75 better keep working, or my goal will be in jeopardy!

Hud:

Great to see you. Believe it or not, I come here every day to see if you'd posted a thread or some new pics. Nice to have you here!

The shot is fantastic. A couple of weeks ago there was a thread here with a shot of the moon over the Golden Gate Bridge. Really beautiful shot too.

I hope all is well with you and your new family. Here's a shot I took a couple of nights ago and posted as a thread.

Enjoy.

Kind regards.

What I'm meaning is that in that pictures, you are to the left side of the bridge. Perhaps position yourself to the right side of the bridge. This will possibly require that you rotate your body and camera slightly to the left (relative to the angle at which you shot in this present shot) in order to include the bridge and the sunset.

I'm not sure if I'm explaining clearly what I'm imagining here. :(

Ahhhh... the lonesome wail of a forelorn steam engine, rattling and clacking over the old trestle and into the sunset forever. WOOWHOOOOooooo......

The faint sounds of pocketa-pocketa-queep fading in the distance as Walter Mitty..... er...

Got a little wrapped up in the pic there, hud. Nice shot. Good to have you back. (Now your line: Nice to be had.)

But seriously folks. That dead-on shot. Did you try to fill-in with flash? Or was that car headlights?

No, none of them suck, they're all nice shots. I esp like #3 (did Ulysses look at this one? It's from the right side of the bridge!) -- the way the sky colors are reflected in the water is great.

The next time you have a spare 30 seconds, post some new pix of your daughter!

Nope, missed that one! Didn't realize there was a whole album for some reason. Only saw the opening image.

I guess what I was going for would have put some color UNDER the bridge as well as above and to the side. I'm not sure of where you'd need to position yourself to get it. But these shots are beautiful! I especially like the one looking straight down the bridge -- the geometric simplicity of it is cool.

Hi hud, I have only just come across your view looking down the bridge (you trespasser) and its got great potential. To enlarge on the project you could draw in the rails with artistic highlights from sky, then form the distant headlight of an approaching train. Before PC's one had to take the picture, now they can be prepared to order. Okay, so its cheating, but its the result that counts, yeh?
Cheers, LG
Hope this helps. :)

I was to the left side of the bridge in shot dsc01812

you are, I just don't understand, because I did include pictures from both sides of the bridge (meaning: from the left and right sides...not from both sides of the river ;)

am I missing something?

-hud, who's definitely missing something

that was an "accidental" flash. Call it a newbie mistake, or whatever. I thought I had turned it off, but it was on auto. I took the shot. While taking the shot, I noticed that there were "no tresspassing" signs right there at the edge of the bridge (not in picture). I wasn't sure if the signs referred to the bridge, or to the railroad tracks in general. So, since I wasn't sure whether I was tresspassing or not, and since I never had any intention of tresspassing to begin with, I just got out of there, rather than trying to re-take the shot.

;-)

-hud, accidental flasher (and possible accidental tresspasser)

Yeah, right when I was taking the shot, I noticed the "no tresspassing" signs. I was not sure whether they referred just to the bridge, or to the railroad tracks in general. Needless to say, i had never had any intention of tresspassing, and so I got out of there very quickly.

Does anyone know the answer to this? Would it just have been the bridge that was considered tresspassing, or the railroad tracks in general. And, if it is the tracks in general, since when is it tresspassing to walk on/along railroad tracks?!?!?!? Has this always been the case, and is this true for all railroad tracks?

-hud, who's very surprised/confused at the thought that it is illegal to walk on/along railroad tracks.

Sorry Hud, My remark was meant lightheartedly and was delivered from the perspective of a British citizen. I just dont know how North American law applies.
