I did a search and there was some chatter a few months back about XT Hand Strap options. Wondering if in the last few months anybody has had any more ideas for a handstrap to fit the tiny XT

Says it is designed to be used with the battery grip. Looks like it could be used without if you could find something useful to screw into the tripod mount to anchor the bottom end.

It is in the accessories flyer that came in the box with my XT.

Personally I have adjusted the included neck strap to a length that allows me to wrap it around my arm a couple of times and have it snug. I am thinking that a strap with a little more elasticity would work even better this way.

I have this Hakuba hand strap and it makes the XT far more comfortable to hold, and at the same time more secure -- huge difference. I recommend it without reservation, and would not use the camera without it.

Hi there,

I am not clear how it attaches to the camera.
If you are referring to the Hakuba hand grip, one side screws into the tripod hole, the other attaches to the neckstrap opening. I leave on the camera all the time, although it must be unscrewed to take out the battery. You can attach a neckstrap along with it if you want...

I saw this posted recently (on here maybe?). I'm not sure whether
or not this guy makes a version for the 350D though:

Looks similar to Hakuba, which works on any camera. This lets you take battery out without removing, but you need an allen wrench to take it on and off, while the Hakuba is screwed on manually with a knob.

I know to each his own.

But I'm just curious why a lot of people are interested in handstraps. I use the neckstrap mainly so that I don't risk dropping my camera (knowing the klutz I am). It's my rule to sling the camera round my neck immediately after I take it out of the bag. In fact, I usually put sling it round my neck even before it's out of the bag.

It's also easy to leave the camera hanging down my neck while I fumble through my waistbag for stuff (like flash, lens, etc.).

Does the handstrap provide an advantage over the neckstrap that I'm not seeing?

The main reason I'm interestd in a hand strap is i've got one of those small top loading tiny camera cases that has a huge neck strap that I keep the camera in. Then i pull out the camera and put on the neck strap and now I've got neckstrap'd case + neckstrapped camera ... its a tad annoying and i'd rather deal with something smaller.

:)

Pun not intended :)

Just wondered if the others who use hand/wrist strap found an advantage I'm not aware of.

Thanks.

I've got the 300d plus battery grip. When I have the 70-200mm 4f L and Speedlite 420EX on it, it tends to get a bit heavy to hold. The straps makes it easier to hold on to it.

I took the narrow strap from my old Minolta and cut it to make a fairly short strap that uses the existing strap mounts. With the camera in the top-load lens down) case I can pull the camera out quickly using the strap. And I don't have to coil up a long strap when replacing it in the case. The short strap is also convenient to carry, and doesn't get in the way.

The Camdapter model for the 350D should be available within the next two weeks. These are nicely machined from 6061 T6 aircraft aluminum and finished in type 3 black anodizing. Check the site for availability.

I've tried several hand straps, but I find a shoelace as good as any. It takes up very little room in my camera case. It costs practically nothing. And it's as secure as any of the commercial hand straps.
