>>>Challenge 43: Good Vibrations, Official thread>>>

...on this.

It is an interesting question.

But I may have to do some reviewing, etc.

....difficult, or why there is so much controversy over this.

This looks simple, it looks clear, I've read the voting rules several times now...and yet, the voting question keeps coming up again and again.

Is there something I'm missing? Some vital factor that I am over-looking? Some ambiguity that I don't comprehend?

And I'll ask again, Does the Sony Challenge have these kind of difficulities?

I went over there just to see if they had had the same kinds of problems we seem to be having...but I couln't find anything similar.

Hummmmm

Well actually it does.

i think if they are still voting in the forum thread it ishas presenting less problems than the voting booth.

But still there are some wonky votes over there that just keep on getting overlooked by the forum.

In the past they have had problems with shonky votes and as i said even now ther is some "funny stuff going on but I will not mention it in this thread,........but I could tell you quite a story.

because like you i went over there for a look and it is still hapenning , send me an email Traveller and i will explain.

interesting to note that they use to be very strong over there but the last two challengers have been pretty weak on numbers.

This has overtones of 'your brother/sister/whomever doesn't do this/have this problem/whatever, why can't you be more like him/her/it'. Bad psychology.

I think the controversy we have here is with regards to where to fight the problem. One side wants to err on the side of security, where the other wants to err on the side of watchfulness.

Hell, I can't think of a way to describe it without showing my own bias. We have people who want to win, regardless of the merit of their entries. In order to do so, they will do things that are either implied as unacceptable, or are explicitly unacceptable. One 'faction' wants to make it harder for this to happen, under the idea that if you make it hard enough, they will stop trying, perhaps.

The other major 'faction' feels that it is enough to catch them in the act, and that things should continue to be 'open'. If you've followed the threads, you know I stand in that camp. I don't feel personally violated with someone is caught cheating. I just want to see their votes removed, and then move on.

hosting a challenge in stf and having 3 or 4 voters that were not particpants and signed up in dpreview only minutes before they voted and they all voted for the same guy's shots. This was the first time it had happened and I was so surprised I didn't really deal with it directly. We had normally listed the top 10 places in the results thread and in the gallery itself. The person who was the benefactor of the new voters came in 4th place, so I just only listed the first 3 place getters in the challenge. . . I didn't know what else to do.

Yes, they have problems there too

Beautiful photo, Cindy. It will probably be four weeks before I come up with something suitable for the music challenge, too. Funny how these challenge themes seem to stick in your mind.
Lovely work on your "longshot."

and I hear ya. Even thought I've done my share of set-up shots - I prefer found shots - and can't always 'find' them during the challenge period. Music is a particularly hard challenge I think - portraying a sound with a visual depiction . . .

I went to look at the eligible gallery & clicked on my image. The thumbnail was there, but I kept getting a broken link. I decided it would just be easiest to reload my image. That's not working either!! Now I see this error message when I try to look at my entry:

Image ID 44305664 does not have a size original file.

My filesize is less than 150K. I am just trying to upload the exact file that I had uploaded before. Please help!!! I just can't figure out what I am doing wrong. THANKS!!

Jeannie

P.S. - My entry is "Music in the Air".

Found shots are my favorite too. I've set up a little space for setting up shots, but I don't much like it. I'll keep plugging away for awhile longer, though-- maybe I'll begin to like it.

My favorite aspect of these challenges is that the themes don't leave you when the challenge is over. I learn a lot while they're happening, but stuff like this has to percolate in my brain for a good long while. I'll start seeing things in a different light than I ever had. These are things that can translate to any kind of photography you like to do.

Fun stuff!

Bad spellers of the world UNTIE!

There are a whole lot of people messing around in these galleries, so it's really hard to tell who might have clicked a button they shouldn't have. Sometimes it's just a matter of clicking a couple of options too fast. It could also be a database glitchie, but that doesn't look likely right now.

What I would do, since you already have some nice comments, is to just click the EDIT THIS IMAGE link, then re-upload your image. That way the image will replace the broken reference and your comments will stay intact.

Hi Nancy,

I have been trying to "Upload Image" from "edit image". That's when I started getting the "Image ID 44305664 does not have a size original file." error message.

I just tried rebooting my computer since the updates to pbase was slow. Wanted to make sure it wasn't something on my end. Actually, that was a long shot & I didn't think that would fix anything.

It didn't, of course. I still am not able to upload my picture. I have checked & rechecked. It is 640 pixels on the longest side & is 143K in size. Any ideas?
