I have just recently started using manaul mode, and have noticed that although I can change shutter speed and aperature, the EV value sets to something like -2, but I cannot seem to find a way to change it.

The EV button does not seem to do anything in manual mode.

Is this normal or am I missing something? How is the EV set when switched to manual, and can I control it prior to changing to manual?

Any input is welcome.

In manual mode the displayed EV value acts as your light meter. Adjusting aperture and shutter to get it to read EV=0 means that you will have a correct exposure (according to the camera's light metering). If you wish to underexpose, set aperture and shutter such that EV reads -0.3 or -0.6, etc. In other words, the EV button will have no effect in MANUAL mode since any exposure compensation is done manually, by you.

You'll notice when in maual mode that if you aim the camera at different things and in different light conditions that the ev reading will change.
