I find that the Canon 350 software that I installed (several times) does not seem to work on a iMacG4. There does not seem to be an upgrade on the Canon software site. Consequently I cannot access RAW files. Anyone have a similar problem? Someone I met with a D1s seemed to dislike the canon software completely and used Elements instead.

Should I just buy Adobe Elements 3 and use its Raw converter? ....and disregard the Canon software?

I had a look at the Sigma software. It probably has the best, easiest, fastest software out there for RAW conversions. It serves as an example of how good and useful that tool can be to overall workflow. It is a real plus for the system. I hope Canon can make a deal with them before Nikon.

As it is, I can open JPEGS with iphoto...and they look great.

A limitation of PSE3 is that it can only process one RAW file
at a time. If you are like me, you would be pulling your
hair out on the very first session. Slow slow slow.
Plus on a Mac it wont run the photo organizer
which seems like a shame - why buy a s/w upgrade when
a huge chunk wont even work?
Good luick.

PS I used to use C1 until they dumped a bunch of their users when
they dropped the C1 Rebel edition and tried to get everyone to
pay almost as much for an upgrade as they did to buy the program
to start with. I now use DPP and am happy with it - its missing a few
things that were in C1 or are easier to use in C1 but is still pretty
full featured and generates good images. I hope they come out
with a Mac version for you some time.

A picture is worth 1000 words, and 1000
pictures aren't enough to tell the whole
story!

Now regarding the C1Rebel to C1LE upgrade path the price was very cheap and it included a number of free updates as well. I have also used Raw Essentials and C1LE and unlike you I have pretty much given up on Raw Essentials as I cannot get the colors to look natural. (Although I do love the features it does support) However C1LE has never really let me down at all.

I've been really happy with Elements 3 for OS X. I shoot only RAW 99% of the time and I haven't noticed any problems with conversions. I didn't like the Canon DPP software very much, but I do recommend the Canon Easy Photo Print software.
