Canon...Wake Up...you are down and the

ISO 3200? That means you must have the hack installed, right?
Yes. Out of the factory flash performance is BAD. I like to be able to remain in one shot focus even if the camera thinks different. And the possibility of changing from RAW to jpg at a push of one button is also very usefull.

it's an interesting POV
I agree.

Theoretical Situation:

Let's say you buy a 100GB hard drive. Then you find out that the
manufacturer only makes one 300GB hard drive, they just use
firmware to make drives that only use 100GB, 150GB, 200GB, etc, of
that original 300GB capacity. They sell the 100GB for $80, and the
300GB for $200. They only make one drive because it's cheaper to
manufacture than several seperate drives.

Would you feel "ripped off" if you payed $200 for the 300GB? How
about if a firmware hack came out that converted the 100GB drives
to 300GB?

Maybe Canon's biggest mistake was leaving the firmware open enough
to hack it. Nobody would have ever known. ;)

My dealer will not give my Toyota a firmware upgrade. Newer models
have features I want. Who do I call about this?
if your Toyota doesn't have those new features blocked, but there...you can call who you want...but if it's there, and for unleash them is only a software problem...call Toyota or Toyota's forums...

The D70 ccd is not a Sony product but Sanyo instead, with
technical collaboration/input from Nikon. Please get the facts
straight
before posting
No, the D70 uses the Sony ICX413AQ image chip, just as the D100
Nope. Please do your research before posting.
The D70 does not have the same sensor as
the D100. Please don't go to Canon sites
to get info on Nikons ( or the other way
around )

have a nice day

the question what would satisfy 300D used if Canon decide to do some FW update.

I mean if this also means you have to select either the new Canon FW or use of hacked FW.

If we want Canon to "make a geasture" or "make a good PR act" they can provide us a new FW which may enable one or two of the "locked features" like MLU or FEC or perhaps even both. And then add some cosmetic improvements in the menus, etc.

But should Canon decide to do that, how many of 300D users would actually like to take that into use, and thus give out all the features the hacked FW gives them.

Or are we yelling that Canon must gives us all, now when Nikon has given its customers something.

I wouldn't take the chance of Canon "fixing" any new F/W that may shut out any other improvements that may still be lingering in the old F/W

"we know that...but Nikon start those nice gesture now...what Canon do?"

they gave us the xt.

you get what you paid for. nothing gets upgraded... everything gets replaced. its the way its always been, and always will be. you're not arguing with canon here. you're arguing with the entire digital camera economy and market here.

IMHO you represent tha majority of 300D user who do even think of this kind of matters.

So we actually are not asking Canon to make a small change to the existing FW but to give us all one could possibly imagine. Anything less would more likely to create even bigger yell than this "Nikon new FW" has done.

And IMHO it's not too fare towards Canon to say their customer relations suck because of this - and because Nikon has given their users something quite small extra which is actually a side product of the new D70s. No extra cost to Nikon, but surely would be a major extra cost for Canon.

Just my extra 0.025€

come up with a new F/W - I would continue using one of the Hacks

To me this is all a big non-issue
