Canon Cameras are Junk!

...is criticism of their equipment. I'm afraid you got off on the wrong foot with your opening headline and some may not forgive you.

The 20D owners look down on xt and 300D users and the xt owners look down on us humble 300D owners but all hate anybody who disses or appears to diss Canon.

Regards, David
You have certainly proved your point! :D
LOL

Didn't really mean to create such a stir...

You asked for comments. Here's mine. These photos are nothing special. I don't response very often, mostly only when a photo really catches me eye and yours don't. A couple of the portraits are nice but they still don't do much for me.

Don't beat me up for giving you my 2 cents. Remember you did ask for it!

... anyone can take those shots with a P&S, why did you upgrad?
Have you tried something that you couldn't do with a P&S? Whare
are the lenses you have? Have you tried to play with bokeh?

Ping-Huan
What is it that a load of posters here have against P&S cameras? It is the photograph that matters, not the camera. Not only can the the quality be AT LEAST acceptable, but they can be very convenient due to their size and simplicity.

I still use a P&S as a pocket camera but for serious work I use my 300D

By the very nature of this Forum, the vast majority of people here own Canon DSLR's and know that DSLR's are more versatile instruments and capable of better photography in more situations.

Yes, but it was obviously not serious -- just to make a point! I've been using Canon cameras exclusively for over 20 years when I switched from Nikon. I obviously don't think they are "junk".

No problem, Andy -- I agree with you! I don't think they are that special either, just testing out my new XT and giving a flavor of the festival.

I was more interested in comments about PQ, USM settings, etc. These photos are mostly snapshots of a festival -- not works of art. I would not print out any of them myself.

Man, that fake heading sure worked! I went form 0 comments to 68 in one day. Unfortunately, a lot of people are really P.O. ed at me.

I promise I will never post a fake heading again -- but I did appreciate the feedback and constructive criticism.

I really liked the overview of the street - was that from the
Empire State building? It really "felt" familiar....
Me too... I looked at the street image 'original size' and enjoyed picking out the people, roof gardens etc. If it was the kit lens then it did much better than I was expecting - you seem to have a good copy!

Ignore the rubbish some people are posting here about P&S etc (you have camera type X therefore you should be taking photo type Y - how absurd!)... I liked your photos and felt you conveyed the clautrophobic feeling of large numbers of rough/ready food kiosks/grills selling all types of foods very well! I lived in Bangkok for a while and I'm very familiar with such 'establishments' - they exist on every street corner there - your photos brought back a few memories!

If I were you I would find a different forum to post on ('Canon talk', maybe?). Some very worthwhile people post on this forum but unfortunately they currently appear to be drowned out by all the 'noise'...

Hi,

I just took a look at your gallery and you have some very nice pics.

I like the pig on the spit shot and the kid with the hotdog shot as well.

Looked in the other galley as well and i like the Hydrant shot (any chance of a recrop or reshoot to include the whole top and maybe shoot from directly above. (90%) IMO it would look fantastic. I also like the chess board shot .

Keep shooting, Keep smiling and Keep up the good work.

Thanks, Michael. The original shot was taken at widest with kit lens and included my feet! I tried cropping as a full circle but it looked too symetrical
for my taste -- but I may revisit the original. If you like, I'll post it.

If you're intersted, here's an old G1 gallery -- I've just had the XT for a month and am just learning it's capabilities.

You post a simple question like, "What do you think of these?" Or a Statement like, "A few from the Weekend" and nobody seems to be bothered to comment!
Of course they're not! But stupid headings like the one above seems
to be the only way people will click on a thread. When I asked
people to take a look at a gallery I put up yesterday,

http://skanter.smugmug.com/gallery/534435/1/22095666

I got ZERO responses -- not ONE person was interested in taking a
look, or making comments. Why do ludicrous troll threads seem to be
interesting, while a serious photographer seeking feedback is not?

End of rant...

Here's a different crop -- do you like this one better?

Thanks, Dan. I appreciate your feedback, about the pics and quality of lens. Again, I don't think these were works of art but just a day shooting with a new camera at a colorful event. That some people enjoyed them is more than enough for me...

What good do you, j4y4, think this your comment to bring or create.

You can even try to give some advice or even constructuve critic - but probably you do not have the skill not vision that would require.
has to be blamed...LOL
Try to shoot better then.
