ph curtis,

Bryan Biggers has put up a page with timings and compatibility information for various CF cards and the D7.

http://webpages.charter.net/bbiggers/DCExperiments/html/dimage_flash_card_speeds.html

Cards above 128MB will work but not all cards and not all manufacturers will work in the D7. Generally, the more questionable (3rd tier) cards probably going to have a problem. I don't know which cards you have, so I can't comment on them specifically. Check out the site. Its worthwhile.

I have been using my 1Gb MD since day one, and I LOVE it. No problems whatsoever. I use it with a CD & MD card reader that came with it, and only paid $339.00.

David, how about timing a Raw file with that super drive and sending it in. (sorry, I'm fishing for more timings).

I have (5) 340 microdrives and a 1gb microdrive.

I've tested them all in my 7.

They all work fine.

(I'm having trouble filling up the 1 gig though......it holds over 500 images in fine mode....).

I have one 340 Mb MD that works fine (IBM).

I have two 128 Mb OEM CF (probably exactly the same as Verbatim brand) that works fine.
I have heard that there is problems with certain brands of CF though.
But this far I havn't heard anyone having troubles with any sized MD's...

Best Regards

I saw Bryan's timings page and can't explain why various cards are not working, but according to Minolta the camera is compatible with all CF1 and CF2 cards and all microdrives.

Perhaps the cards that users are reporting are really off-brand 3rd party type cards, or their firmware or controllers are just older versions as someone else suggested. As an example, I have 3 Lexar "8x' 64mb cards. I would think they were identical but the 2 very new ones work fine but the 3rd one is about a 12-18 months old and will not work in the camera. The camera won't recoginize it and won't format it although I can format it in the computer. Even after computer formating it the D7 still won't recogize it. Older controller in this card maybe.....? I don't know

Hello,

Thought I read someplace that CF's comes in 3 and 5 volt versions. I am not sure if this is true, but if it is, and the D7 supports 3 volts, the 5 volts will obviosuly not work.

I bought a 128MB Twinmos CF: Tested it in the store, seemed to work. However, when the camera went to sleep, it forgets all its pictures....

Negligigble difference between my 1gb and 340.

1 gb 24.42 sec.
340 mb 23.77 sec

Well within the delay time required to start and stop the stop watch.

I know there are two voltage designations for Smart Media cards... Have not heard of different versions for CF.

However, low voltage such as a tired battery will cause camera to act like it is working but not record on CF card. It will do this for several shots before it drops dead. Be sure to have sturdy power supply when testing (2amp/6volt).

Just spent an evening shooting with my 8x Lexar 128M that I finally decided to open this morning. Everything seems to be fine.

I bought a 64 MB apacer card, but the D7 kept on saying 'no card' :-(

I was the last 64 MB card in storage (they were cheap), however the 32 MB apacer cards didn't want to work either :-(

I tried 128 MB apacer, works hardly, I managed to save some images, but the write can freeze (not crashed the camera). Often, when switching on there is a "no card" message. Only sometimes it sees it for as long as it last...
