Canon Cameras are Junk!

Man, why don't you leave it up to people to decide what they want
to look at and what they want to comment on? I saw your gallery
too, it was nice but there was nothing I particularly wanted to
say. If you have to try to trick people into looking at your work
and commenting, maybe you have too high a need for attention.
Offer what you have to offer but you can't force people to care
about your work.
OK -- I see your point. Part of my mistake is being used to forums that list how many people have SEEN your post. This forum only lists those that reply. I was under the false assumption that no one had even bothered to look -- and did not understand why. My mistake. Feel free to ignore my photos and posts if you want -- it's a free country.

Having said that -- I pretty much look at others' photo posts and galleries to see, first, what kind of quality they are getting out of the 300 or350D and different lenses, and second, to see how creative 300D and 350D users are. Often, I am bored -- sometimes surprised.

Because this is the wrong forum for that. This forum is for
disucussing 300D/350D issues. There is a forum "Samples and
Galleries" for posting galleries and asking for criticism.

Why do I see hundreds of photos and galleries posted here?
Not to answer for Habemus, but by all means, post pictures here. Some people do when they have specific issues related to the 300d or 350d ("check out the low noise on this photo"), some post pictures that may have broader appeal elsewhere.

But don't demand that people respond. Shout on the street corner if you like but people aren't WRONG to keep walking. If you really want a wider audience, including people who shoot with other cameras, try posting on samples and galleries or the open forum or indeed on other websites that may have a less technical orientation. Submit for Steve's or Photo.net's photo of the day.

i saw your 'hungry' post but don't know what to comment of a bbq pig

A: "looks good!"

B: "that's disgusting"

C: "no comment"

I have been following this forum for a long time, first as a lurker
then as a participant, and it has always been about more than gear.
Over time, people in each forum form a community and like to share
photos with their friends. This is how the forums here have
evolved, and no amount of ranting is going to make everyone “take
it to Samples and Galleries”. Spend some time in the Sony or Canon
Talk forums and see how many people still post there even though
they have upgraded to DSLR’s
People certainly have free choice here and I apologize if it seems that I was trying to "trick" people into looking at one of my galleries. I was just getting the impression (probably falsely) that people would rather respond to a thread "Canon Cameras are Junk" than look at some XT photos for comment -- so I was trying to make a point.I have been surprised that the threads with the most comments are often superficial, controversial and trollish. There is so much to discuss about equipment and photography, -- although there are lots of posts and no one can comment on all of them.

In general, most people here seem to be kind and supportive, even of newbies and people just getting into photography. I guess I"m hoping that I have joined a community that will continue to share and support
its members.

On the first picture what catches my eye is that... aren't those
two buildings the twin towers? Haven't been to NY for a long time
but they look awfully like them. If not, what are those two
similar buildings?
Yes, I know they look like the twin towers but that is the new Time Warner building up on 59th Street and Columbus Circle -- home of the new Lincoln Center Jazz theaters. The view is looking North...

No one on the forum is allowed to comment on your gallery until you
post the obligatory duck and cat photos ;-)
Well, if I see one more bird or flower...

You obviously wanted some attention, and got it.
I'd say your post is actually a "Ludicrous Troll Thread", IMO.

"End of rant".

Drebeler.
========================
Of course they're not! But stupid headings like the one above seems
to be the only way people will click on a thread. When I asked
people to take a look at a gallery I put up yesterday,
I got ZERO responses -- not ONE person was interested in taking a
look, or making comments. Why do ludicrous troll threads seem to be
interesting, while a serious photographer seeking feedback is not?

End of rant...

You obviously haven't read the thread but still wanted to say something clever and nasty. You failed...

It's all good! Welcome to the forums. I liked your pictures, you seem to be able to take shots of people without being too obtrusive to them. I like the one with the kid and the hot dog the most - of all of them, that one seems to be telling a story.

My two cents: Iif you want to do the environmental portraiture or candid thing, it might be good to know what you want your audience to be feeling or thinking. That pig is cool, but it might be even more powerful if you could see the restauranteur behind it. For the food shots, it might be cool to play with DOF a little. For example, open up that aperture and keep the pig's face sharp while bluring the background a bit.

I look forward to seeing more of your shots.

Good feedback, Michael -- thanks! One problem was trying to shoot while stuffing myself with the incredible food available! ;-)

I would have really appreciated a longer lens so I could have shot people at more of a distance. If you look at some of the vendor's expressions, they didn't seem thrilled at being a photographic subject. It was also very crowded, and often people would bump into me while I was shooting.

In general, it was a good experience and gave me a chance to spend a few hours with my XT and put it through some paces. I'm still getting used to the feel of the camera, and expect to be more comfortable with it as time progresses.

Thanks again...

To me, your photos are simply snap shots and nothing more. It may be that I don't find them interesting so I didn't comment. If your happy with them, then that is all that counts. So why are you trying to force others to comment on them?

Embed to or 3 of your favourite shots, include some narative(difficulties on the day, where it was shot etc), what you like, what you don't like, what in particular you would like an opinion on.

I'm interested in your photographs because I like photography, but I'm not going to go out of my way to give an opinion if you make little effort yourself.

The pics are nice but there's just too much information to handle.

There are no focal points to the pics and ends up like regular snapshots. The pictures of individuals are nice but it's "busy" and thus distracts the eyes. Better yet to do close ups of faces and share their facial expressions. The backgrounds are cluttered with people just standing there and my eyes gravitates towards them instead of the main subject.

Sharp pics though. I do like the roast pig!

Personally I think Habemus_Canon is a TROLL, I saw another post on this forum where he yelled at the poster for posting images here, like he's the forum moderator or better than the rest of us.

Well IMHO that's what keeps this forum interesting - the photos! Yes it too can be a techical forum, and I have learned many things here, but more often than not I would rather view the great caputures of our 300D/350D.

So just ignore the TROLLS and keep posting images. And keep in mind some people won't click on a link to another site, they would rather see the image in the post. And some people will just look and not comment, so don't feel "left out", I have had a few posts go without comment.

BTW you have some nice images there, and that pig looks good to me - makin' me hungry :D

Decent snapshots I guess, but nothing that would wow people into lots of responses. Looks like you had a fun day.

Also, I agree about embedding photos. 8 times out of 10 if someone just posts a link to their gallery (especially smugmug which can be pretty slow at times), I don't bother clicking it and I move onto the next thread.

I wonder on how many occasions you yourself have failed to comment on somebody's gallery of pictures?

As other's have suggested, embed your images.

It's also a good ploy to bash the 300D owners like me and to heap praise on the xt.
