So, decrease resolution to avoid noise? It sounds more like hiding it by resizing the file. Interesting concept. Hmmm...

Does this mean that it was always possible to reduce noise if you shot at reduced resolution? or is there something else going on?

Some people are happy with 4mp cameras.

Is that a focus assist lamp next to the flash? The 2.5" LCD is nice too! Pummping up the pixels to 8 millions in a small chip is bound to increase noise, so it makes sense to reduce the resolution.
It will be interesting to see how well it measures up against the Fuji F10's low light performance! From the test picture posted in DP Review, the Fuji's images at ISO1600 appear to have amazingly low noise.

The F10 looks like a super low light camera, but the lens looks a bit suspect to me, lots of PF where there should be none. Nevertheless it's still competitive overall quality-wise with the benefit of usable 800 and 1600 ISO. Once they get that sensor into a better body it should be a killer.
