Hi all!

Is there a possibility to change or convert .jpe format to .jpg format in the camera or is that format fixed?

All cameras has .jpg format not .jpe format!

Thanks!

Cheers,

bOJAN

KM wants to mark JPEGs with embedded Adobe RGB color profile
with jpe extension, I suspect it is because of some some lazy
programmer ;), because all programs capable of using it will find color
profile without looking into file extension.

As answer to your question, no you can not change camera
behavior, sorry :(
(but .jpe files are .jp(e)g fles :)

I know that the .JPE is the same as .JPG and PS can read it but FUJI Frontier's program can't. So I'm bussy converting it before geving it to the lab.

Thanks any way.

I noticed that Windows will not read the exif data if the extension is. jpe, so we find that if we change the extension to .jpg that windows treats it like a regular jpeg and the data is visible. We do that by simple renaming the file. I know that is a lot of work if you have 400 pictures from a wedding though. I suppose you could set photoshop up to batch process al of the files and ssave as jpeg, that would speed things up.

you might be able to do a "batch rename" in photoshop too, and just
change the extension to .jpg. although, i haven't tried it, so i
don't know if that will work.
Why do it in photoshop?
Use a renaming program - that's what works best.
I use Flex Rename for renaming files:
http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA014830/english/FlexRena/

It can rename with information from the EXIF, it can copy and rename
as one operation, it can rename all files in an entire directory tree,
it can rename selected files only, and it tells you the original/new file names
for all files before renaming.

For fast rename of .jpe to .jpg, nothing faster than just typing the "ren" command. In the directory you want to convert, just type "ren .jpe .jpg"

However, you might not want to do that. The reason why the camera name those jpeg images .jpe is because the colour space is in Adobe RGB. Although they are still jpeg compressed file, the colour will be wrong on your monitor unless you are using a colour managed program like Photoshop.

Frontier machines also will not read the colour profile and will assume all images are sRGB colour space. Therefore, if you want to send images for printing, you should convert the colour space of the images in a colour managed program rather than just rename the file name. Otherwise, the colour of the prints will be wrong and looks dull.

WAH!

Thanks for that tip!!! Never realised that. The labs I use all use frontier and I was contemplating adopting an Adobe RGB workflow... now I dont have to think about it.

Thanks!
