Where can I purchased the EFS 60mm lens, It seems to be on back order on several stores, I called B&H today but their service is terrible. After being on hold for 20 min a very rude sales person came and he was not willing to give me free S&H. Many stores will do it for sales over $100 USD.

would you want to by a 60mm efs lens. You can get the 50mm macro for half the price or a 100mm macro for about the same price. Both of these lenses will also work on full frame cameras and are tack sharp (I have both).

If you are only going to have one macro lens then get the 100mm, you will be thankful for the extra working distance.

I am not bashing it, maybe it's a fine lens, is it any better than the 50 or 100mm macro (optically), probably not. What I don't understand is why someone would pay $450 for an efs lens when there are equally (IMO) good lenses in the full frame format, for equal or much less money. When I buy lenses I buy them for the long term, hopefully I will one day have a FF or 1.3x crop camera, my 50 and 100 lenses will work just fine, how about 60mm efs? Now if the 60mm were priced the same as the 50mm macro, then maybe I could understand it, sadly it is twice the price.

one possible reason is that the 60mm is a better walkaround lens than the 100 and it offers higher magnification (1:1) than the 50.

best of both worlds.

I appreciate your feedback but I'm not interested in your opinion about the lens, I just need to know where can I buy it. I already made a decision and I whant to expend the money.

Well, if you're already dissatisfied with B&H who, while not perfect, is probably the single best product and service source available, I just don't think I could recommend another vendor that would both have the lens and make you happy.

In fact, any that I could recommend whose pricing is as aggressive as B&H while offering excellent return and follow-through would likely tell you to go pound sand for free shipping. On the other hand, I'm sure thousands of places will offer you free shipping provided you ignore their prices, but don't be surprised if most of their items are priced over $100, even those worth only $50.

it's almost undoubtably better optically then the 50mm 2.5 and has 1:1 built-in, although as you note it is twice the price. as for the 100mm that IS more or less universally regarded as an amazing lens, I have seen a few claims that the 60mm is better optically though, however judging by the MTF that doesn't seem possible (unless the new coatings improve contrast THAT much on digital sensors), it would be awesome if true, I still find it a little hard to believe though. and the 100mm only costs a little more.

otoh, i might eventually go for the 60mm, you get better DOF, and DOF can often be a problem in macro where you can't get enough of your target in focus at once, it would seem to be more hand holdable, could probbaly make better use of the built-in flash in a jam, woudln't way down or overstuff a bag already packed with other stuff for long woods hikes where you might well wish you could do some macro if you didn't have a macro with you, but might well not want to lug around yet one more sizeable lens, for something that might barely get used. etc.

I already have a 1.3x camera and have had a full frame camera and I gladly bought the 60. My decision to buy the lens was based on my experience doing macro photography with various lenses that existed previous to the 60. I plan on using the 60 for quite a while and think that 1.6x crop cameras are better for macro work anyway. The 60 does offer advantages over both the 100 and 50's for me.

Not to mention that Macros are inherently good portrait lenses, and adding that F/L to the mix sure can't hurt there either, unless your studio is in a garage or concert hall (sorry for the hyperbole). :)

Just thought I'd add my $.02 to keep this thread as far off topic as possible. :)

Exactly my point. Not likely to happen. :)

Actually, if you ever have the chance, visiting their retail store is an experience in itself. It's an absolutely fantastic place to shop.
No, I was pretty happy about not paying the sales tax and getting
it the next day. If you find someone who sells lenses at B&H
prices and gives free overnight shipping please let me know.
