FZ5 vs Canon S2

Hi,

by comparing the feature set side by side on dpreview, the canon s2 seems to have more features.
Quality wise we will have to wait some reviews of the S2.
Anyway, what's your opinion on this subject?

The FZ5 is for sale now in Aussie. Canon won't be for months

Canon weighs more than 500g - no thanks

Canon uses AA's - no thanks

Canon pocessor has been tested before and found to be wanting

However, I do like the better video mode in the Canon and a few other minor wins.

Nevertheless, IMO (I'm a noob too), the camera's are targetted at dfft markets

No doubt it will a fine camera - certainly better than the S1.

I agree that the Canon has an attractive feature set, and may take exceptional pictures. I know my former Canon G3 was a superb picture taker, but far too slow in terms of shutter and focusing lag. The Canon family of cameras seem to be slower overall and the newer models have slipped in image quality, based on many reviews. I stronly considered waiting for the S2 and Sony's HC 1, but the reviews of the FZ5 convinced me that it was right for me. So far, I am very pleased with my FZ5 !

There are no known underwater housing for the FZ20 or FZ5...

Canon will probably have an underwater housing for the S2 (as it has one for the S1). And this is a very big plus for many photographer...

I like makro focus range - 0 for Cannon, and normal for 10 cm.

Trouble is that a quoted macro range of 0cm means little as the subject would have to be in the lens to use it.
