Hi all in the forum

Got my D70 on Saturday it's awsome

People around me still don't know why I need such a big camera
which is why I come here to talk with like minded people who do know.

I did so many serches um and arghed at prosumer vs dslr
dont know why its even a topic of discusion now I have my D70

My first few go's with the D70

First one at a fair slow shutter panning as my daughter came round
Second one my Daughter playing frizbe 1 of about 30 sequential shots

Regards to all hope there is room for me on the forum

Isn't it great to have a camera like this at this price??? I still can't get over it and I've had mine for 6 months.

Make sure you read all the newbie info about white balance, possible custom curve use (great for the kid shots and around the house), and other tips!

Enjoy!

...to shutter lag. Now you'll get pictures of your daughter while she's still in the frame and still doing something interesting. Not to mention the improved images, etc....... Now for the learning curve, that's fun too.

I'll misquote Donald Rumsfeld when I say,
'You go take pictures with the glass you've got.'

Hello

Very nice photos for the first time, when i got my D70 back on aug 2004

my first photos where not the best, lot of focus issue, my question for you is what setting did you use on your
camera, AF-C OR AF-S, .

Thanks

and again very nice photos

Nice shots but wait until you get them printed. Go to a decent camera store and when you get them back you will relize every penny was worth it.

It just gets better and better the more you use it, and dealve into the lesser known tricks and tweaks.

Daughters are great, aren't they. Now you've got to turn her loose with some bubble blowers. Mine's sixteen, and still a willing subject for my photographic experiments.

I also am impressed with the $ value/benefit ratio. I paid almost an identical amount for the D70/kit lens that I paid not too long ago for my 995.
Have fun!

Duh...it's not rocket surgery.

You will love this camera and good job with the panning shot. For backlit shots like the 2nd one try using the built-in flash. With sync speed up to 1/500 you can get beautiful fill-flash that looks very natural.

still learning...

Thanks for the welcome everyone

It took ages to convince my missis I need a camera like this
now I am on that slippery slope of lens lust.

50mm f 1.8
New 55 - 200 afs when its available
Maybe sigma 70 - 300 apo 2 macro

arghhhhhhhhh

Help........... I have two kids, mortgage and all the otherstuff with it.

Thank Gawd, someone who appreciates the damn camera. =)

It is a fine camera and A LOT of fun. I think anything that gets you out of the house and doing something is a wonderful thing.

Don't get corrupted by equipment talk, work on your skills and then eventually, you will be able to use anything. =)

Just shoot! =)

Tell people to try ISO 800 on their little digicams, or even ISO 1600. You can use it on the D70 and still get good shots. And the lack of shutter lag and the ability to focus quickly means you will actually catch the shot you wanted rather than 3 seconds after that look or moment has passed.

The Sigma 70-300 APO Super II is a good buy, and the 50mm 1.8 is a great buy. That kind of lens lust is not bad at all. Just wait until you decide you need 2 or three Nikon f/2.8 zooms, like the 17-55 and the 70-200 VR. Then your lens lust disease could be fatal, as the wife might kill you if she finds out what you spent. If you ever read of my premature demise, you can assume my wife figured that out.

I remember your daughter from that good headshot you posted.
If I could make a couple of suggestions...

Snapped a couple of seconds too late but you got the panning action down cold. This is something many folks have a lot of trouble doing.

Shooting her just before she reaches 90 degrees will do two things. You will get at least a 3/4 profile and the lateral blur will be enhanced. Also framed or cropped closer to the left side will increase the apparamt speed.
Even tho this is an action shot it seems static because she is center frame. Framing or cropping to the right, where the action is going, will give some anticipation to the toss.
You seem to have a good grasp of the technical side. Now get a little artsy fartsy (;-> )

Proficiat. It's a real photographers camera.
Have fun with it (very nice shot, the first one).

I had that problem too, but those people are quite silent nowadays, when they are looking at the 50*75 cm pictures on the wall.
