Should I buy the E10?

I am contemplating buying the E10 but have read a number of controversial opiniond in this forum that makes me believe that Olympus has some QC issues with the E10.

I need some feedback from E10 owners about the following issues.

Olympus holds this kind of info close to the chest.

From what I have read about Hot or Stuck pixels says that all digital cameras have this issue but do not show themselves under most conditions. Since this issue was mentioned in E10 reviews, and not in others, it tells me that this may be a bigger problem with the E10.

Also, there is feedback thet say the AF system is a little unstable, and it is difficult to get short depth od field images.

I know that the E10 and Nikon 995 are not exactly in the same class, but this is another alternative. Generally, the Nikon forums do not talk about issues like these.

Is the E10 less reliable that other Digicams in this, or near, price class? Please comment!
Thanks!

Neal,

If you scoot on over to the "Olympus SLR Forum" you will find tons (and I mean tons) of information about the E-10, its pleasures and pitfalls. That's where most of the E-10 users hang out.

Bottom line: the E-10 is a great camera, and like all, it has its quirks and problems. The hot pixel problem is certainly no more prevalent with the E-10 than with other models. Focus issues are a bit more complicated to sum up here.

Again.....there's MUCH information awaiting you on the other forum.

Good luck.

David

I can't comment on the pixels and focus....

but today for the first time I held an E-10 in my hands.

Let me tell you.. my 2100 and all the other digicams under $1500 don't feel the same after that experience.

Wow.

And that ring zoom....

double-wow!

Alessandro (who's secretly in love with a Canon EOS D30 which he really couldn't justify).

...mr. fancy-shmancy-pants!...

...suuure...go to the (E-10) "dark side", and leave us all here, laying in our C2100UZ "puddle of mediocrity"!...

LOL

I know I know (:::feeling sheepish:::). But it wasn't my fault. Really! There was this very VERY bright light, and these sort of grayish looking men with REALLY big eyes, and then that's all I can remember for a few hours. Except when I came to.....suddenly there was this heavy black E-10 camera sitting next to me, with a tattered credit card receipt near by and... and... and... something that looked like a SmartMedia card, only thicker.

Next thing I knew there were voices saying things like "That camera bag is too small," and "Looks like you'll be needing a new tripod" and stuff like that.

Naturally, I contacted my therapist immediately.....but that was no help.

So here I am, apostate though I be, begging your understanding and forgiveness.

The Uzi remains......actually seems to enjoy his big brother. Only a few minor scraps and squabbles between them so far.

Hey, it could be worse! Terry was flirting with....gasp!....a D7 before coming to his senses.

Hoping we're still buds,

David

All digital cameras have hot pixels, the E-10 is no exception. But in relating to dead pixels, that is a thing of the past now. The new 42-0130 firmware takes care of that - pixel mapping feature that "cleans" the ccd. This is a first for digital cameras, and I'll bet this kind of feature is bound to trickle down to other Oly cameras in the near future as a firmware update. Like David mentioned, check the SLR forum for all the E-10 info you may need.
