You ought to check out the specs and options offered by the Canon charger compared to the 3rd party competition. It looks to me like it might be worth the extra dollars for the Canon options: using 12v car cord directly to camera, charging 2 batteries at once, and the 100v to 240v compatibility.

The battery barn charger is only 110. You will need to either get a step down transformer( not optimal cause you still can't change the power cycle from 50 to 60hz) or another adapter (prefered method). You may find it interesting that if you went to batterybank.com and look for the same charger, it comes with 3 battery plates that are compatable with many different brands of batteries. So it could be useful if you have one of those products listed on that battery charger compatability list. These included plates come with the charger if bought through batterybank. I'm not sure about batterybarn. (international shipping is cheaper with batterybarn).

The original Canon charger holds 2 batteries but DOES NOT charge both at once. It will charge one at a time. You will also need to use your supplied power adapter that came with your G1 to use it with the charger, hence the ability to do 110/220 power source.
Thanks

I am using in Europe, Czech Rep. ROWI 6692 Li-Ion charger with an 6692/01 adapter for BP-511. Works with 230V and in the car. Was inexpensive and works good. http://www.rowi-international.com

I must agree with Delboy about not using the camera to charge the battery. The first G1 I received totally overheated while attempting to charge the battery while in the camera. The LCD went almost completely white right afterwards and the auto-exposure system, which was working well previously (-2/3 compensation was perfect) , began to overexpose everything totally. The vendor replaced it with another unit since it was still within the return period but it was a sobering experience to say the least.

The Lenmar charger (from batterybank or wherever) will work off a 12-volt car battery. It's power supply is a simple 13.5vdc transformer whose plug connector is a a very standard positive-center-pin, negative-outside-ring. You probably already have some device in the house with a similar power supply; if not, finding one at your neighborhood electronics shop or web site would be an easy matter.
Is there NO 240V BP-511 charger not made by Canon?
