I just got my Digital wallet today. I also purchased a pcmia card adapter for memory stick. I was ver suprised at how quickly it downloaded from the card to the DW. It took less than a minute for 50mb of pictures. I am very impressed with it so far. It is very portable, being about the size of a GameBoy(actually a little shorter). I think this is one of the best products out there now. It's battery seems great. This is exactally what I needed. I did not need something to connect to a TV or anything like that. For someone with a Sony camera this is one of the only options. I would recomend it to anyone(so far).

Kevin,

As I'm a new comer of this forum & I wish to purchase a DW, may I ask you some questions about DW ? From the review of dpreview.com, there is a connect problem between Memory Stick and DW, is it true ? Is the problem really be fixed by new ver. of firmware ?

Thanks a lot.

Thankfully that issue was fixed many months ago. There was a short time when you had to tell Minds@work that you intended to use the Wallet with Memory Sticks, but they are all compatible now. I've used it a lot with Memory Sticks. A bit unsettling to press a couple of buttons and a minute later the download is reported as successful. Takes nerve to believe it and format the Memory Stick. The doors and battery connection are a bit crude but the but the thing does just what it says.

Hi Kevin,

I have been using a Digital Wallet for about a year now. Use it mostly as a removeable drive until I go on an extended vacation, then take it with me. Twice now, the Digital Wallet has fell from my computer desk to the floor (approximately 4 feet) and it still works just fine, no problems. So far, I am happy with the Digital Wallet, it does what it was design to do.

Dear DW users,

I just bought my DW and it is good size to carry. I have question about the file date. When I list the files, it shows DW00001 00/00/80 - the date is wrong. Does anyone know why and how to fix it. I do not find any indication on the manual. Thanks.

Hi,

I have the Dw and love it, it works great. The date it uses comes from the card that you are downloading it from, to get the current date, format your memory card in the camera before you use it and it will refelct the current date.

The DW is ok, and functions well enough. There are annoyances and room for improvement. There are some things I would not have allowed my product to ship with, were I in charge.

It often doesn't respond to button presses - very inconsistent and slow response. I'm not just waiting for the button to register.

Battery cover is flimsy and difficult to work with.
Switching battery packs is a pain.
Should accept standard NiMH cells.
Should have function to erase card.

Should have function to automatically check last download, and optionally erase card when download verifies.

It would be really cool for it to recognize when I've already downloaded a given card and prompt to confirm a duplicate download.

I think the date shown is the date the memory stick was first formated (by Sony?). I believe the Wallet will show the date of last formating of CF cards but this doesn't seem to work for memory sticks. I asked Minds@work but they said they didn't have memory sticks to try it out.

Gee, good luck, guys! My Digital Wallet seemed like the perfect solution... till I started a 2 month vacation! It failed almost immediately. Despite my desperate emails requesting a quick repair from M@W, it took them 11 days to give me any tech support... support that didn't help. It took them over a MONTH to BEGIN the paperwork so I could return the darned thing. Needless to say, I haven't stored any photos on this vacation that didn't fit on the compact flash card!!

Sorry to hear so many bad news about the DW. Before I bought my DW, I was hesitate to do so and my first choice was actually Digital Album. But I think the DA is too bulky and the worst is the shops here in Hong Kong do not carry stock. I have to order and wait for 3 days. I can't wait so I bought the DW and I really hope that it work. At least it is working well right now. I need that for my 4 weeks vacation.

By the way, is it safe to put it into the baggage and transport by the airlines? Any suggestion for me? Thanks.

Dear Mike,

It might be preferable to take it as carry on luggage; that way you can keep it from getting thrown around and you can keep your eye on it. Either way, just wrap it up well in a jacket or sweater to protect it from being crushed or broken. X-rays etc. should be no problem. Good luck!

Hi Mike,

Thanks. I better hand carry it with me. I don't want to see something wrong when I take it out from the baggage.

I have my DW 6 Gig since last year. Problem free even
when I upgrade the BIOS.

Here are a few pointers, I used for my DW.

1 - When inserting or removing the memory cards turn off
the DW first.

2 - When copying a memory card, keep the DW still.

3 - Try not to over charge the battery and disconnect it
when you are not using the DW for longer than a day.

Have a great trip.

I've had mine in both hand baggage and hold baggage on aircraft - no problem. Like anything else, one must be aware of baggage handlers' and their machines ability to test baggage robustness to and beyond it's limit. Also you don't want some lightfingered individual removing it (and all your pictures) from your case.
