New IrfanView version - now with 7D support

Hi, I've donwloaded the newest Irfanview version. Three dumbo questions:

1) How to get rid of those Irfanview Icons at the beginning of each filename?
2) Where in Irfanview do I find the special properties of 7D?
3) Which properties actually?

Mario.

Is this new enough that we'll need to experiment to compare conversion quality? Or should I just give it a shot?

Having replaced my hard drive - of course the one with the OS and most programs - recently, I haven't, as yet, reinstalled Irfanview. Partly because between Irfanview, the KM viewer, the Fuji viewer, Photodeluxe, Qimage, and a couple of other freebies that came with a camera, printer or scanner, I had a variety of apparently incomplete (even if cheap) editors.

So, if I re-add Irfanview, add the plug-ins, will I be able to convert KM 7D raw files, then save them to an appropriate format (like TIFF or PNG) and then be able to fuss with them further in Irfan or the others, assuming they accept that format?

Since this appears to be a free intermediate step towards RAW, thia seems like a good idea. (Photoshop is going to have to wait - maybe a long time - I'm about to have to replace a transmission, just replaced the family TV and the aforementioned hard-drive: "free" is is very inviting these days.)

1) How to get rid of those Irfanview Icons at the beginning of each filename?
You can't really get rid of those icons (without additional software), but you have a limited list of icons to choose from.

Start IrfanView > Options > Properties > Extensions tab > Miscellaneous > Choose which icon to use (but don't expect any better) :)

I also don't like those icons. As we are closer to the version 2.0, i hope the new version will have a nicer look with nicer icons.
2) Where in Irfanview do I find the special properties of 7D?
Let me answer with your next question "Which properties actually?"

If you have EXIF in mind, you can set IrfanView to display custom EXIF data in fullscreen mode. Just go to properties and search :)
3) Which properties actually?
Indeed, which? ;) :)))

7D, lens and flash reviews

Downloading Irfanview and the plug-ins took a couple of minutes (maybe 5 or so) and installation was almost instantaneous.

That was easy. Now I'm going to have to start learning how to deal with a RAW file. I shot some RAW+JPEG and other than the time my rather sluggish computer took to open the RAW files, there was no apparent problem. I happened to have my dog handy and shot a couple of him, a one with the integrated flash and one without. Clearly there were color differences from natural late afternoon window light (about 6:30 PM PDT) and from flash but now - the learning begins.

Thanks, but as to the changed icons I didn't mean the Irfanview.exe icon itself (that's ok), but the fact that since downloading, all my .jpg picture files in all folders down't show the jpg icon anymore, they are preceded now by the Irfanview icon. How to undo that?
Mario.

The icons used are depended of the aplication that is used for default opening. Just open your previous image viewer and find the option to manage file type you wish.

There was a point at which the install asks which file types you want to default to Irfanview to open. I don't think I indicated any, except maybe RAW or MRW?? Anyways, I did several shots as RAW + JPEG and the jpgs show the previous icon (IE?) and the raws as the Irfan splat(?).

At that point you may have indicated Irfan as the default to open them so, yes, you'd get the irfan splat.
