Ugly white LCD protector, turn it black!

I saw this a few days ago but just now got my camera out to do the black marker thing and noticed my LCD protector is gone!!! When and where it fell off I have no clue!!!!

And B&H is closed for the weekend!!! :(

Oh well, at least the whole back of my camera is all black now!

Hope all is well with you...

When you get a new one make sure you secure it with a piece of black thread or such...

I don't remember if you also had an E-10 but I just found out that the black plastic hotshoe protector cover from my E-10 fits perfectly on my D70 hotshoe...

The hotshoe was starting to scratch the inside plastic pocket of my holster bag and was wearing a hole in it...

Problem solved! (looks slick too!)

Take care,

Bob

Hi,

I just tried 2 minutes ago with a permanent Marker but it is not working well because the marker do not cover well the surface.
Is there any particular thing to know?

Go over it a second time and put it on the camera and it will look black and natural against the black back of the camera...

Off the camera it may not look like it's covered cause it's opaque and light can show through but when it's in place on the back it will look great...

I use a black permenant magic marker...

Let me know how it goes...

Yes Yes Yes

I confirm, i just pass a second time the marker and put it in place and miracle as a Nikon standard product.

Thank again very much for your advices

Hey there, Just wondering if it makes the protector look like it was painted on with a marker, IE: marker lines on the inside, viewable on the outside. Thanks,

Just a little note! My CP8700 hot shoe protector fits perfectly on the D70.

As you can see by the photo I posted it looks very natural like it came this way...

You see no paint lines at all cause the back of the camera is black also so it all blends in when it's on the camera...

Big improvement on the looks of the camera to me...

I always felt that the white protector stuck out like a sore thumb...

Try it, what do you have to lose?

I agree. Just didn't want to have to buy a new one if I wasn't happy with it. Yours looks great.. I may try it. Let ya know how it came out if I do..

Thanks,

Good tip about the hotshoe protector but I donated my E-10 to my daughter's school art dept. after I got my D70.

That E-10 was a masterful machine! If it weren't for shutter lag and write times it would have been an almost perfect camera within its focal range!

Best regards, my friend,

Did it a while back. The marker works just fine. Of course I promptly lost the cover after that. Oh well. Time to order a new one I guess. --Swill

It came out great. Can't even see the marker lines when it's on. Thanks for the tip. Good one.

add a pinch of superglue on the edges of both rubber viewfinder and lcd cover - and that takes care of both sticking very well.

thx!
Thanks to a forum member here named gizmo_bowen, I learned this
great easy fix to make the ugly opaque white LCD protector black
without using paint or any masking involved...

His post is here in response to the "LCD protector, on or off" thread:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1034&message=13153308

After two minutes of marking the inside of the protector (except
the LCD window) with a black permanent magic marker, it now looks
all black and natural on the camera and being on the inside will
not rub off...

No more sticking out like a sore thumb...

Here's what the back of the D70 looks like now...a meaner, leaner,
blacker, machine...

Thanks again Gizmo for the tip, just wanted to share with those who
may have missed your post...

Bob

PS. that's a lens cap keeper tied to the hole in the botton of the
protector to the strap holder on the left side so I don't lose it...
