Can someone offer advice on a UV Filter for the FZ5. I would like to purchase a very basic one to just protect the lense. Would this be called a "UV Filter"?

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Robert,

It's been so long since I have navigated this whole site, so please hang in there with me!!!

I just purchased the FZ5 and cannot figure out how to attach the UV filter for protection! Call me dumb blonde, but this is my 3rd digital so I figured it would just go on like my others, but this is the first camera where the lens actaully retracts. My others are the E-10 and the Oly 2100, both of which I love, but wanted something smaller to haul around for a change!
I have the 55mm crystal optics.
Thanks for any help you can offer!

holy old thread Batman!

But what you need to do is take and attach the lens hood adaptor to the camera body then scrw the len filter in to the adaptor.

If you got your camera new in box then look for the yellow piece of paper it will tell you what to do.

On my FZ5 I use a 55mm Hoya UV filter screwed on to the adapter and just leave it there.
The lens hood or lens cap just fit over it.

Thanks!! Yes, I am old, slow and blonde and did not read the directions and figured out after reading more on this forum! :0-

So my question is now...I see from reading that I should put the lens adapter/proctector on, but what about that hood/shade thing??? Leave that off? I don't think I'll use that much.

I will read the yellow paper tonight to figure how to get the darn adapter to stay on as I could not figure it out...that is what having a 2 year old can do to a brain!
Thanks for the reply...I think I will like this camera!

If you are going to use the camera outdoors I would use the lens hood as much as possible....I can not think of anything that can help a photo more than a hood.

Just trying to learn and it's slow going!

Thanks a bunch Mavis!

I read more on this forum after posting this. I guess I should read the yellow paper also. So it seems that I am able to attach the adapter, but leave the hood lens off if I want?? I don't think I will use that much unless I am around the water this summer for water ski photos.

I will have more time to read the directions tonight...It's just that I am not use to a camera where the lens retracts, my 2 Oly digitals do not and the UV just went right on!
Thank you for your help!

Thanks Gene,

I will try it...I have one for my E-10 and never really use it, but might more around the water shots for this summer.

Also, I see that the B300 can fit this camera?? Thats great to know, as I have one, but have not used it in years.
