I'm deciding between the Epson color Stylus 890 and 1280.

Being that the only difference between the two are the 1280's "large format" printing, what kind of things would you use "large format" printing for? Please tell me some examples so I can decide if this would be important to me.

Also, I believe that the 1280 comes with Adobe Photoshop LE.

I wonder if this is the reason that there is such a large price difference between the 890 and 1280.

Hi Marc.

How big of the price differences, though.

I have 1280 for about a month, haven't printed on 13 inch wide paper yet but planning soon. But i did super B 11x 17 and looks great.

I believe most people buy large format when they want to be able to print a large print. If you don't have any interest to do those large print, you don't have to.

My reason is - I never have large format printer before, my current HP cannot do large print too. I wanna try.

After i got it, another benefit and found and love so much is the ability to print something in horizontal way e.g. printing letter size paper by feeding 11 x 8.5 instead of in vertical direction.

Hi Marc,

I think the 890 si the better one for digicams, cause you can print on rollpaper.

And does it make sence to print digicam pics at a size of the 1280?
That's impossible without interpolation.

I think the 890 is the king, especially for people interested in panorama shots.

To confuse matters even more,

I have a 1290 (I'm Dutch, not German, but greetings anyway), and it also does roll printing. The color carts are different, but I couldn't tell you in what way.

If you have the desk space and money, go for the 1290. It will print on anything a 890 will, but has the option to do A3+. So you can print larger, or print a lot of images on a single sheet of paper. If you want to print poster, you need less sheets. I just got one because A4 isn't large enough, I wanted to do 30x40 (cm that is).

Other than that I find the Epson an excellent performer, and works well on USB.

Not exactly so . . . the 1280 uses larger ink cartriges as well . . . (and it does come with a roll feed attachment)

Yes, it does, but perhaps more important it also comes with a $299 price offer for the full version of Photoshop, representing a $250 discount off the best (Photoshop) price I've seen anywhere. If you plan on buying Photoshop anyway (as I did) that makes the 1280 cheaper than the 890 . . . (mine was $423 at buy.com (including a "$30 off" offer) . . . subtract $250 from that and I in essense got the 1280 for $173 . . .).

Talking about interpolation and large print.

Yes, you might need interpolation to make it looks better, my camera is capable of 3.3 mp and I got the excellent super B print.

Of course, with the same pic, will look sharper on 4x6 print.

It doesn't bother me at all because the fact that the bigger print, you look further away from them, though. So, it doesn't matter (much) how course it is.
