I got my S800 last Friday and am busily testing everything I can .. SUCH FUN! Anyhow, I ran across something last nite that puzzles me .. the basic question is "does the software you use affect the tint of the photograph?"

My first prints were from Adobe Photoshop LE and Adobe Photoshop Elements, on an Epson glossy photo paper, not sure exactly which one. They came out beautifully. I've also printed from MS Publisher, a flyer onto plain paper and another on coated paper, and the colors were correct also.

Then last nite I used ACDSee, all excited because there's a plugin that gives oodles of templates for getting multiple photos of all sizes onto different sizes of paper. But when I printed out my first sheet of photos, I was sick. They were yellow.

This morning I printed out those same photos from MS Publisher and they looked fine.

Now, I keep thinking I must be nuts ... shouldn't the colors come out the same from any software? Has anyone else had this problem?--June

Different printer and one different program; similar results. I use PhotoShop LE 5 with a HP 694C and also import photos into WordPerfect 7. I find that the same photo printed from WordPerfect will apear darker that the one printer from PhotoShop using the same paper . Not as drastic a difference as you seem to indicate though. I am not real sure if you used the same paper for the printouts you are comparing - it can make a real difference!

Do you have an address where I can download the ACDSee plugin?

It might be a color management issue. The copy of ACDSee that I have doesn't have any color management settings that I can find. In this case, some software will use Windows ICM by default, while other software does not. By Windows ICM, I mean the monitor's profile defined in printer properities in windows, and the printer profile defined in the printer driver.

By the way, there's an ICM box in the S800 print driver. I have that checked. You might want to try it both ways, i.e. with and without checking the ICM box when printing from ACDSee.

Correction... I meant to say:

By Windows ICM, I mean the monitor's profile defined in display properities in windows, and the printer profile defined in the printer driver.

To answer a previous question, yes, I did use the same paper .. it's Epson S041141, Epson Photo Paper.

The plugin for acdsee is at the ACDSystems site, http://www.ACDSYSTEMS.com/english/products/

I am having quite a time trying to understand color management stuff. I didn't think I needed it at first, since the Adobe products printed perfectly right out of the box. But I wanted to be able to print multiple prints on an 8.5x11 page, and Photoshop products aren't made for that.

I did download Qimage and try that tonite. However the first page of prints I did came out off-color too. They weren't as bad as ACDSee, but weren't great. Right now I've saved a Qimage page in .jpg, and am printing it with Photoshop LE ... That gives me the multiple prints but is pretty cpu intensive... it's struggling and I have a decent computer.

Interesting .. just found some color adjustments in the printer driver. This gets deeper and deeper, doesn't it!
