7D reaches further into space [pic]

Hello Matt,

Would a 2x Kenko or Minolta tele adapter work well over the complete Range of my Tamron 28-300 ? Or will it give vignetting at wide angles?

I would love to extend the range of the Tamron with a 2x adapter!

I don't own the Tamron 28-300mm, so
I can't tell for sure about vignetting specifically.

As you already know, more lens elements
mean more chance of chromatic aberration
and flare. Zoom lenses in particular have
more elements than prime lenses...

Hi Jay,

you only need a t-mount for your particulare model, a camera tube for the telscope, which you can get through any telscope retailer. the T-mout should be available at your camera store, or they can order you one.
Dieter
1) Totally awesome! How much of the frame did the moon fill? Can
you post a downsized full-frame of the last image?

2) Did you use Daylight Preset for white balance? Seems like the
color is different between the two. Do you know why?

3) I know there are adapters for older cameras to attach a
telescope to them. Is it possible to attach the 7D to a telescope?
I guess the question is "is there an adapter for Maxxum cameras?"
Anyone know off the top of their head?

Thanks,
Jay

Hi Matt,

using a 2x converter will give you a 56 - 600mm lens. You have no wide angle left. No sense in using a 2x in a range you already have.

You will also loose 2 stops, giving you a fairly dark viewfinder image, making it hard to focsl sharply, no auto focus availabe either.

I have not seen good results with 2x converters on any zoom. You are better off cropping. There is no physical fit with a Minota 2x apo as they are matched to fit their primes, 300 and longer. The Kenko I am not sure about, but if you use the pro version, you will have to bite the bullet and purchase a prime lens.
We don't want to degrade our images unless it is for artistic purpose.
Cheers, Dieter

Hello,

Thanks for replying to me (Geir). I do not mind loosing the wide angle at all, as long as the tele end gets improved.

Loosing two stops (from 6.3 to 12.5) is no problem using ISO 400 or 800, but may of course mean poor AF. It's however easy to use MF at this far end. Image quality is another issue.... Don't know how that would turn out...

--Matt: those images are sooooo amazing.

One question (please pardon my ignorance -- and don't take this as a criticism by any stretch) .... why is the second image a different color?

Thank you.

First photo was desaturated in photoshop.
Second photo has the original color as photographed.
