Greetings,

I'm working temporarily in Houston (I live in New Orleans) and was looking around to see if there were any big camera dealers in Houston. I came across the Houston Camera Exchange ( http://www.houstoncameraexchange.com/ ). Looks interesting, but they are only open till 7 at night and it's on the other side of town from where I am working and I'm here till 6. I would have to go at lunch or something as I'm not here on the weekends.

Has anyone here ever been to this store? What kind of selection do they have. I'm looking for a bunch of little things, foam bag inserts, etc, etc, etc that you hate to order from B & H because the shipping and handling is oftentimes as much as the cost of the item.

Thanks in advance,

Hi, Chris.

Give them a call and ask what they've got. They'll be completely honest with you. Their store is oriented more toward film than digital, but it's still a good place to visit. They have many accessories for printing, camera bags, tripods, etc. I think they would be a very good source for the sort of incidental items you mention. They also have a lot of interesting used equipment. Finally they're informative (and nice) people to talk to.

By the way, I don't work there, I'm just an appreciative customer.

Welcome to Houston!

I've never been there but I have only heard good things about that place. I have not been in any camera shops besides Ritz/Wolf and Vintec. I am not impressed with Vintec Cameras and only buy 18% gray cards there.

I'd be interested in hearing about any very good Houston camera shops.

Thanks,
Steven

I managed to get over to that side of town today and visited the Houston Camera Exchange. It's an old world kind of place, kind of haphazard, but fully stocked with most anything you would need. Tripods, lighting, bags, paper, printers, etc. Has a good selection of new and used cameras both film and digital. The sales staff was extremely helpful but not pushy. The prices I saw weren't out of line from those available at reputable web sources.

I bought an Optech strap for my D-70.

Highly recommended.
