Expodisk

What would be more interesting is if someone could indicate whether there is a real advantage over just carrying a small white-grey card. I hear folks raving about this thing - how they carry it on their neck and use it whenever there is a need to rebalance white - but I keep coming back to the white-grey card issue. It's $100 for an expo disk or $10 for a white-grey card. (I'm guessing on these prices.)

I'd love to hear from folks who have these to know if there's something I'm missing.

There have been several post discussing more practical alternatives, but I admit I am warming up to this product after a few tries, including some disappointing results.

The last couple of times I used it I was very pleased with the results. What I like is it is very easy to use and to me less cumbersome than trying to use a grey card. I had some problems but discovered it was simply tricky lighting that varied in different parts of the court. Had the same problems using a grey card.

It's the same difference between someone who uses a Kodak Grey Card versus an electronic ambient meter for metering purposes. Sure, you can meter off of a grey card. But an ambient meter has its advantages, too. Personally, I've used a Robin Meyers Digital Grey Card ( http://www.rmimaging.com/products/graycard_index.html ), and I also use an Expo/Disc. Sometimes I use one, sometimes I use the other. But I've never regreted buying the Expo/Disc card, even though it's more expensive. It really does do a very good job of producing a very good white balance, even under very tricky lighting conditions. And I also use it for metering because it was originally designed to turn your TTL reflective meter into an ambient meter.
