Who designed this thing, a blind monkey on LSD, and they have the nerve to charge almost 800 U.S. for it ! I vote it as the "worlds most user unfriendly softwear" Elements 3 is better because it promts you to certain functions. Want to become the next Bill Gates ? Design a photo edit platform that you don't need 2 lifetimes to master.

Would you blame the car because you don't know how to drive a stick?

Photoshop is the industry standard for good reason. It takes time to learn how to unleash the power of this amazing application.

Sorry, photoshop is not an appliance. It is a powerful application that requires time spent learning how to use it.

If instant gratification is what you desire there are gads of programs with "auto-fix" options. Photoshop is not for you, that's for sure.

I can't believe you would come out here on the pro forum and whine about photoshop because you're unwilling to invest some time learning how to use it.

Most pros have spent years learning what they know, and continue working on perfecting their craft. They have little patience for appliance operators who insist on instant gratification.

I have been a photoshop user since version 5. I now use PS7, so I guess I have been around Photoshop for a few years.

I probably use 50% of the power of PS. PS is amazing, it is so powerful it is impossible to outgrow.

.... so guess it ain't for you old folks that don't have the
brains to adapt to things new?

For others there is a blanket and glass of hot milk waiting
by the fire up there in Alaska. Maybe a good book on photography
101 would get your started?

What you say is true, if the camera is an appliance and you are an appliance operator.

For you, the very best you may expect are technically better snapshots.

Skill in photography, as in any disipline, can not be acquired through purchase. If it could, every schmuck that believed the hype and bought a $700 golf club would be shooting 60's and driving as far as Daly.

When I bought a reactive resin bowling ball my average went from 165 to 180. So, with better equipment I improved slightly.

And with better equipment you will improve slightly.

I want a higher bowling average, I need to work at it.
You want better pictures, you need to work at it.

A good place to start may be to stop whining about how hard things seem to you now.

Cheers

Coast, there you go again, I bet I have more Technology than you, such as a state of the art computer navigation system for my boat ( a lot eaiser to use and more important than a 1960's tech photoshop platform.) I also invest in technology companys and know a few things. Thats why i know a dud when I see one (photoshop) Your old Alaska gambit shows your ignorance as Alaska and places like it are the future, not burned out, dirty, illegal, overpopulated CA. Thats why smart money is moving out of CA, but not you, I'm sure !

If you spent a little time, or a lot of time in your case, learning the techniques that are available to you in Photoshop rather than making idiotic posts on the DPReview Fora perhaps you'd understand the power of this software.

Photoshop is the industry standard. Not because it was developed by monkeys on LSD but because it is well though out and becomes very intuitive with continued use. As one begins to understand the tools, and yes, the learning curve is very, very steep, Photoshop becomes irreplaceable as a tool for photography; not only digital, but for all photography.

There are many editors out there in cyberspace that you can try. If you'd really like a challenge, which seems to be unlikely, try GIMP. GIMP has many of the features of Photoshop, is free but has the worst UI (User Interface) that I've ever seen.

I'd suggest that, after reading your posts, you stick with your Rebel 2000, Kodak Royal Gold 200 and have your local drug store process your prints.

If you can visualize it, then create it in the camera, finish it off with the print that matches your mind's eye then you are, most likely, a master...

As a web designer, I had been using a cheapo software from Micrografx to create the graphics for my simple websites earlier.

Then in early 2002 I found myself suddenly helping out another company and they couldn't load my program on their maschines, so I had to deal with Photoshop (6.0 back then).

The total project time there was hardly a week, I only had very limited help but Photoshop proved to be easy to understand, easy to learn so by the end of the days I could work with it professionally.

Of course since then my technics have improved and I've learned to use more of it's features, but for the basic usage the GUI obviously was good enough.

well, if all else fails- with your ability to pick winners, and duds - you can always become an investment advisor...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAA!! whew

These forums crack me up...

She is almost five now and can take digital pictures, download,
make the folder, sort and do some PS adjustments for her pictures.
She knows curves and some other adjustments. She is tired of those
learning cds with all the math problems and loves PS for her
photo projects.

She might start an online help group for Michael and others in need?

Yea, I know you guys are right ! Thats why many experts in the field of technology state that the MAJOR problem holding back the wide adoption of computers and softwear is user unfriendlyness of everything digital. I don't give a rats if you can do it or you daughter or grandpa ! If photoshop is all you can come up with since man walked on the moon in 1969 ! The joke is on you, The big problem is that most reasonable men or women don't want to deal with it. If your photos are so bad that you need photoshop all the time, I would REALLY question your abilities, because we know that there are many that came before you using slide film for commercial purposes who did'nt photosh_T! and were better photogs than you !!!

The previous folks responding to your comment forget that some people actually are using Photoshop for the first time and it is quite a lot to absorb at once. Photoshop has such a lot of tools to familarise yourself with that going though a simple tutorial (quicktime movie) makes it lots easier to begin to use. Here is a few quicktime movies that begin to make it all make sense.
